Advantages: Good acting all round, funny

Disadvantages: None

Meet the Parents was released in 2000 and directed by Jay Roach. Ben Stiller stars as Greg Focker, a male nurse, whose girlfriend, Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo) has the most controlling and difficult father, Jack Byrnes (De Niro).

The plot is basically that Greg wants to propose to Pam but needs, or maybe wants, Jack's permission to do so. The problem being that Jack is ex-CIA and not the nicest character. Greg is ridiculously clumsy and accident-prone and problems seem to occur with everything he does. It's a pretty funny comedy, mainly because of the great actors though. It is strange to see De Niro out of a gangster/mob role but I think his performance was excellent.

It has a slightly predictable, but enjoyable, ending and the Stiller-De Niro partnership works much better than I expected. It's not a film to be taken overly-serious even if it does have De Niro and it's definitely a good watch and even buy as you'll probably want to see it a couple of times.

It's difficult to criticise Meet the Parents because it really doesn't do anything wrong. There are some great lines, the performances are all impressive, it's not too long and it has a nice ending.

Summary: You can't go wrong with choosing this movie
