Advantages: film like a puzzle
Disadvantages: difficult to follow
Call me dumb if you like but I don't understand this film at all. Films are to be enjoyed not puzzles to solve, mind you many will disagree with me on this.
Memento is a psychological thriller directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby and insurance agent with big problems.
Shelby wakes up in a motel room oblivious to the reason why he is there. He suffers from chronic amnesia; solution for this problem is for him to write notes as things happen because in very short time frame he forgets everything. He writes messages on his body and on the photo he takes.
A character keeps propping up, a woman is dead and Leonard was investigating a man for insurance fraud. This man was showing same symptoms as him.
The cleverness of this movie is the fact that it tells a story so the viewer keeps guessing, miss couple of minutes and you miss the whole thing or do you because the ending is left at viewer's discretion. You decide what happened by guessing at the clues given.
I think there will be two camps with differing opinions. One will and do think highly of the film others like me probably don't understand it at all. Nolan won high appraisals for this movie which one day perhaps will make me change my mind because Memento may well be a true classic before my memory fades.
The film mixes colour with black and white.
Summary: like it or hate it
