Men In Black 2 - Superbit (DVD)

After the surprise success of the original Men in Black, a sequel was inevitable. And, sure enough, five years after they first appeared on screen, the MiB are back to save the earth from the scum of the universe. Sadly, it’s more a case of second time unlucky, as the film fails to repeat the success of its predecessor. Although it certainly has its moments, it’s slightly formulaic and after the freshness of the original, that’s a big let down. I had eagerly awaited the 2 disk DVD release of Men in Black 2 for the past two months, ever since I had heard of its imminent parole date. You know Tommy Lee Jones' character, Agent K, was neuralyzed at the end of the original film. And I'm sure one of the reasons behind doing this was so that there wouldn't be a sequel to Men in Black; because quite simply it doesn't really need one. The guys in black are back, but don't expect their entrance to excite everyone… "Men in Black 2" is a tasteful platter of laughs, gags and quirks, but only for those seeking a second helping of the same, tired formula. The first "Men in Black" was, at best, a Ghostbusters for the 90s but playing off the hackneyed gimmick of putting together a mismatched pair of characters and throwing them in bizarre situations and storylines. For the most part, it worked for the first movie but in "Men in Black 2," audiences may leave wanting more.
