Men Of Honour is a film released in 2000 and directed by George Tillman Jr. I had never heard of this director before and after a bit of research I found that this was his first blockbuster and personally I have to say this is one hell of a debut effort. It is a brutally beautiful film that is made for many reasons, and I really will enjoy reviewing this film as much as I enjoyed watching it. It seems that not many people at all have heard of this film, which is a surprise for a film starring Robert De Niro and if I can inspire one person to watch this film then I will happy. I hope you enjoy reading. CAST: Robert De Niro as Chief 'Billy' ... Read the complete review

Men of Honour stars two fantastic actors, Cuba Gooding Jr and Robert De Niro and personally I feel it was these two who made the film. The film stars Cuba playing the part of Carl Brashear who grows up watching his father spending hours working on the farm just so his family can have enough to survive on. His father makes his promise that when he grows up he will not end up like he is. Carl promises his father he wont and when the US Navy finally becomes integrated he joins up hoping for a better life. Carl finds himself working along side all the other coloured people as a chef and he is not happy with it. On a very hot day the crew men are all ... Read the complete review

The thing that works against Men of Honour most is that it is a tired story with a new twist on it. There are countless stories, films and books of the deprived child fighting against all of the odds to ultimately succeed. This means that the film has a certain predictability about it which detracts from the overall enjoyment of the movie. Cuba Gooding Jr is excellent playing Carl Brashear. He has all the attributes needed to play a part like this. He manages to be incredibly likeable but still to have a steely edge and determination. The story is based on Brashear’s life story. Perhaps it is harsh to criticise the story for being predictable as they ... Read the complete review

Men of honour is a film based on the life of Carl Brashear and his attempt to become the first African/American US Navy diver. At first you may be forgiven for thinking it's just an everyday story, someone running around an assault course and jumping in and out of water. But this story is far more than that. It's a true tale of heroism and prejudice, showing Carl Brashear as a man with the will and determination to succeed when everybody around him, wants to see him fail. This is his story and although some artistic licence has been used it is based on true events. The film is a must see and one that will really make you think! Cast/Characters ...
