Advantages: Romance

Disadvantages: Not Costner's best performance

This movie first appealed to me, because as a child I was always fascinated by messages in bottles, I remember hearing on the news about a young boy in England who had found a bottle with a message in it while walking along the shore - it was from another young boy in France. I thought this would be so cool, so everytime I was at the beach, I always scoured the shore for a bottle - the only thing I ever found was empty coke tins!

Oh well! I digress?

So what's this movie about?

Theresa (played by Wright Penn) is a journalist who works for a major American Newspaper. She's constantly on the look out for a new story. Theresa is lonely, following her divorce, and she is stressed out, so she sends her son away to stay with his father for a while and takes a well earned break. One day while running on the beach, Theresa discovers a bottle with a message in it. A beautiful message, so romantic, so much so that she finds herself falling in love with the author (Kevin Costner *who wouldn't fall in love with him!*), even though she hasn't met him.

Back at the office, the boss (Robbie Coultrane) gets hold of the message and decides to put it into his column at the paper. The response from the public is overwhelming, and it turns out that others have found similar messages, on the same note paper.

Somehow, Theresa manages to track him down, and he turns out to be everything that she ever wanted and more - a very sexy boat builder, who wants to give her all the best things in life.

It turns out that his wife has died, a few years before, while pregnant - she was the one the letters were for, and he's still trying to get over her death, but at the same time finding himself falling deeper and deeper in love with this woman who just appeared from no where.

Will she tell him what she knows and how she came to find him? Or will she carry on life with him always risking the chance that he
will find out?

It has a rating of 12, due to scenes of nudity (oooer), but this is infrequent. It could be said that this is a bit of a chick flick, my boyfriend humored me and went along to see it (probably in the hope that I would mistake him fro Kevin Costner!)

I loved this movie (but then I am a bit of an old romantic at heart anyway!) , and while it might seem to be one of those soppy love stories where they all live happily ever after - you might just end up with a bit of a shock at the end.

I like this film, but then I'm a big softie! The ending annoyed me but then all the best films/books are meant to have a twist.
