Lord of the Dance is an Irish dance show. I have seen this show twice in Manchester, one of which included the return of Michael Flately. Seeing this live is phenomenal and has a great atmosphere. As I enjoyed the show so much I bought the DVD as soon as it was released.
Michael Flately is the lead male of the show and is the Lord of the Dance himself. Michael is an amazing dancer and has perfected his role over the years and taught many others. He likes all his dancers to be absolutely perfect and in time and you can see the time, effort and team work put into the show.
The lead female is another popular Irish dancer Bernadette Flynn. She plays Saoirse and you can see there is a good relationship between her and the Lord making the show very believable.
Lord of the Dance does have a storyline but there is no speech throughout the show. Because of this I've never really understood the story. This may sound a bit boring but the show has music and dance back to back the whole show.
The dancing is all in perfect time. My favorite dance, and the one everyone is waiting for is "The Lord of the Dance" where they do the classic Irish dance in a straight line. At the show this is before the interval and repeated at the end. I always look forward to it but at the same time I'm sad the show has ended. Now I have the DVD I can watch it again and again.
The costumes are fantastic and a lot are sparkly and shiny which works great with the lights.
The DVD has some scenes taken out from the show. One of my second favorite scenes was taken out which they had brightly coloured clothes and were dancing to a brilliant upbeat song.
The scenes of a lady singing was also taken out. It wasn't a great scene. When at the show this was the time everyone went to the toilet or to get another drink. Maybe that's why it was removed. You can still see these scenes in the bonus features though.
Another bonus feature is about the making of Lord of the Dance but that's all the bonus features. I would have liked a few more.
The DVD can be bought for £7 on asdas website. This is cheaper than I paid, mine was about £10 from Hmv when it first came out. This DVD has no age suggestions, it is exempt from classification.
Even if you don't like to watch dance you will love this show. It has had success worldwide. If you ever get the chance to see it live it is worth going. It's outstanding.
