michael McIntyre has always been a favourite of mine when it comes to stand up so it was a no brainer that i loved this DVD.
as i am sure most people agree, it is his ability to take every day situations and make them hysterical, you don't need a quick mind, it is simple but hilarious comedy, that every one can relate to.
i also love his ability to act about as straight as a roundabout, even though he is married with kids.
what attracts me most to his comedy style is that he is hardly ever offensive (like some comedians) he is lighthearted, his jokes are fresh and he never goes over the top or takes a joke to far.
the dvd kept me laughing the whole way through , so much so, that i then ended up booking tickets to see him live.
michael McIntyre never fails to disappoint, and this DVD is definitely worth a purchase.
I absolutely love comedy and enjoy watching panel shows, stand up comedy as laughter for me is what makes the day worthwhile! I have been in the audience of 8 out of 10 cats and laughed so hard my cheeks hurt for 2 hours straight (they somehow edit it so it's never as funny on tv as it looks in real life) and usually find some good comedians on this show and shows like Mock the Week. Whilst I like all varieties of humour, from Frankie Boyle's dry, witty remarks to Mickey Flanagan and his bubbly curly hair, and especially Peter Kay and his accurate accounts of when we go on holiday (GARLIC BREAD?! HAHA!) I also really love Mr McIntyre! I remember requesting some years ago now for this DVD for Christmas and was overjoyed to unwrap it and remember watching it on christmas day and laughing away!
The show is recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2008 so is going back a few years now but Michael covers a wide range of topics - traffic on the motorway, the "Man Draw" and the comedic value of women trying on clothes and shoes while their partner lies in waiting. His accounts are always very bubbly as he bounces across stage, waving his lovely mop of hair around. It's his energetic expressions as he recounts his tales and the realistic aspect of them that make his stand up all the more enjoyable. He is able to connect with a live audience well, as well as those watching this on DVD as they are scenarios that are relatable - e.g. I used to work in a shoe shop and he recounts those annoying customers who always ask you to feel their toe in the shoe. Well duh?! If a grown man doesn't know if a shoe fits him or where his toe should be in a shoe I'm not so sure I can tell him as I'm not the one wearing the shoe, nor can I tell him whether or not he feels comfortable in it!
There are also some jokes that are absolutely hilarious and so absurd you do hope they have not occurred in real life and that he has made up stories relating to his wife and children for comedic material but nevertheless they are still bound to have you in stitches.
Overall I really love this DVD and if you're having a quiet evening in and want some laughs and giggles this will be right up your street! Michael is one of the few comedians who can proper make me laugh and this DVD doesn't fail to do so, so I think I best get myself some tickets to see him live as I'm sure I will laugh my pants off!
Michael McIntyre's first comedy DVD Live and Laughing is hilarious, it is as simple as that. He uses original jokes that unlike on some comedian's stand up DVDs you will not have heard before. I had seen him on things like Mock The Week Before and wasn't quite sure what to make of him, but I think he is best as a stand up comedian with a routine because this DVD is hilarious. Michael McIntyre doesn't have to use other people's misfortune to make people laugh and his comedy isn't going too far. Instead, Michael McIntyre uses clever comedy and wit to make the audience roar. He uses both physical comedy and vocal comedy to come up with a funny stand up DVD that won't disappoint. He doesn't go over the top with anything, he doesn't rely on anything to make the audience laugh except his own amazing sense of humour. I love that there isn't excessive foul language. The audience isn't too annoying because generally you will laugh out loud anyway to drown them out. He also has the ability to laugh at himself which is amazing.
A friend recommended that we watch Michael McIntyre. My husband loves comedians like Billy Connelly, but I often find them swearing for no particular reason and overall a bit offensive (which I understand some comedians are). The thing I love about Michael McIntyre is he hardly swears and he often talks about everyday situations.
We watched this DVD and we were in hysterics. I haven't laughed so much in a long time. He talks about the tiny glasses in buffet meals, the man drawer where batteries and odds and edds are kept, and how his son is growing up and learning to speak. I don't want to say too much, incase I spoil it for others.
He comes across as quite camp and he plays on this fact, although he is married with children. He uses this to his advantage and the way he acts and brings across his comedy is so funny.
You can buy it from Amazon, new for £8.97. You may be able to get it cheaper on ebay, either for a new or used copy.
I'm looking forward to watching his most recent DVD that came out before Christmas.
RRP: Supposedly around £20 - hunt around, you'll find it much cheaper!!
Michael Mcintyre is a great comedian which such a great stage presence, and this is highly reflected in this DVD. This is his first DVD, and is rating with a 15 certificate. His jokes aren't particularly crude, and bad language isn't often used, but here and there certain "adult" jokes are included. Michael is like marmite, you really do either love him or hate him. He is a posh, well-spoken comedian, and is often very hyperactive! This DVD is consistently funny, every joke had me in stitches and I've watched it a numerous amount of times. I feel that as a comedian, he is very different from others that are on the comedy scene at the moment, and that is what makes him stand out so much to me.
The DVD itself includes the stand-up from the 'Live and Laughing' tour, and this is his performance at London's Hammersmith Apollo. It also contains a piece he performed on Live at the Apollo which is seriously worth checking out.
This DVD will have you in fits of giggles, and Michael Mcintyre is definitely one to look out for!
**Just to note that this review is about Michael McIntyre, not specifically his DVD**
I didn't discover Michael McIntyre a long time ago. So this is a relatively new interest I have! I first saw him on programmes such as Mock the Week and stand up shows on Comedy Central. To be honest, I had even seen interviews with him in before I had seen one of his proper performances.
At first I didn't expect to like him. He looks like he could be annoying. He is a chubby short man, who describes himself as looking slightly Chinese - I should point out now that he doesn't have any Chinese in him. Never to be seen without a suit and big floppy hair do in tact, his constant flapping around could rival a Herbal Essences advert. He sounds very well spoken and pokes fun at himself at any given opportunity.
I bought my sister his DVD last Christmas as she is also a fan. We watched it together as a group and we were all in stitches. All different ages sat around able to laugh at the same thing on the TV, that we all agreed on was a god send! The thing with Michael McIntyre is he can pull things from real life that you don't think twice about doing and never again can you do it without laughing. A couple that come to mind are; taking a message on the phone and saying you have a pen - when you have no pen! And also "the man drawer" everyone has one of these in their house. The drawer where all random bits and bobs find their way into - alan keys for example. I don't think there is a house that hasn't got a man drawer.
Me, my partner, my sister and her partner all booked tickets to see Michael McIntyre live at the o2 for November. We booked these a few months in advance and when the time rolled around we were so excited! We were planning to make a night of it, go out for dinner beforehand etc but being so close to Christmas, we were struggling to find the spare cash. We ended up getting the train straight up there. Finding our way about was easy enough as there were signs pointing to the o2 as soon as you got off the train.
Between us we had seen every bit of stand up & TV appearances Michael McIntyre had done to date, and as much as we loved him we were worried it was all going to be stuff we had seen before. As funny as he is, we had seen all his material and were worried it would be money spent on something we could've sat at home and watched.
We got our drinks, went to the loos and found our way to our seats, we were quite high up, but could see the stage perfectly. There were also three massive screens which we ended up focusing on, as they were a better view. Sitting down, we couldn't have been more excited, but this might be more to the fact that we should get out more!
Kings of Leon started blaring out "You're sex is on fire!!!" and the lights dimmed. The whole of the o2 started clapping and cheering and there he was, in true Michael McIntyre fashion, skipping on to the stage.
The show lasted a couple of hours, with a decent length interval. He paced up and down the stage and I was amazed at his energy! He didn't stop for water or seem to be worn out by any stretch of the imagination (nothing like Lee Evans - who seems to sweat a tad too much for my liking!).
Everything we heard was new material and every joke was a new classic.
I won't ruin it for those who haven't been, as I'm sure the DVD will be a huge hit over Christmas. If you love Michael McIntyre, you will definitely not be disappointed with his new show.
He talks a lot about his wife and kids and I imagine they are a very happy little family. Who wouldn't love being married to this man?!
In a constant good mood and not too perky to take the mick where it's needed!
He is a real breath of fresh air at the moment in the world of comedy. He doesn't have to be rude or aggressive to get a laugh and he also doesn't have to belittle others to make himself more amusing (Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr ring any bells?).
So for a comedian for the whole family to enjoy, buy his DVD and sit back and have a giggle this Christmas!
Don't be put off my the accent, or think this middle class man won't offer humour that will make me laugh - because I guarantee you will!!
McIntyre's humour goes back to the good old days of observational humour and will have your sides splitting with laughter.
McIntyre will bring your attention to many subjects and you will find yourself not only laughing along but agreeing with him, and perhaps even blushings because you are one of the very people that McIntyre is describing. Surely every household in the land has a 'man draw'? What the DVD and you'll understand that reference.
If you enjoy McIntyre from his Roadshow or from Live from the Apollo then you will enjoy the DVD even more as it shows the comedian at this finest. If this product came with a money back guarantee I can assure you you would not be asking for a refund!! I can not speak highly enough of this man's humour.
Treat yourself to a smile and purchase this DVD
He's stormed into the limelight during the past 6-12 months. His enthusiasm is catching and his generalised day to day humour is a form of pure genius! 2 showings on Jonathan Ross during 2009 and the piece de resistance, an appearance on Top Gear. Who am I talking about? Only Michael McIntyre, a guy who is filling arenas all over the country with belly aching laughter.
I first saw him on shows like Mock the Week, Have I got News for You and Would I Lie to You? where he began to make an impression with his down to earth, situational humour. He then had a 6 week stint on BBC 1 where he presented Live at the Apollo Comedy Roadshow which took the place of Jonathan Ross' show, after his suspension. He was joined by the likes of Rhod Gilbert, Jason Manford, Shappi Khorsandi, Sean Lock, Al Murray, Patrick Kielty to name a few of the upcoming talent. After this, the only logical step to take was to purchase his DVD Live & Laughing - the fastest selling debut stand-up DVD (according to The Sun). This further set in motion the idea to see him LIVE.
The DVD is directed by Paul Wheeler, who has also directed the likes of Jack Dee Live at the Apollo and Alan Carr: Tooth Fairy Live. It was released on 17th November 2008 and can be purchased for £6.99 from Play.com with free P&P. The filming location was in the infamous Hammersmith Apollo in London.
He is renowned for skipping onto the stage, in a child like manner, this has become part and parcel of his routine. Bound to happen - there was an incident in Wolverhampton stating when he skipped onto stage, he actually fell and dislocated his shoulder! The audience actually thought this was part of the show and were laughing, up until the point his manager came out and assisted him off the stage~!
His humour is not offensive - which alot of comedians these days resort to in an effort to get a laugh (Jimmy Carr being a prime example). His comedy is refreshing and literally leaves his audience in stitches. His routine also transcends age barriers - as I found evident when I saw him live in Manchester. He has, however, come under criticism for not 'challenging' his audience and sticking to everyday situations. Saying that, everybody can relate to the situations he focuses on and just add some light humour to their day to day lives - what's to grumble about?
He often includes his young family in his comedic routine. He lives in London with Kitty, his wife and their two sons, Lucas and Oscar. At the show we watched in Manchester, he mentioned his youngest son and an incident involving a Nintendo Wii (won't spoil it, you must get his next DVD (Hello Wembley)out tomorrow, according to HotDeals UK at Morrisons for £8 - limited to one per customer).
Not wanting to spoil the DVD for you, I include some of the observations made in the show which really made an impact on me.
Brilliantly observed is the drawer that everyman has that holds any bits and bobs located, just in case a need arises at some point in the future. McIntyre mentioned items such as old currency, batteries that you're not entirely sure have any life remaining in them, light bulbs etc. The way you can relate to what he says just makes him absolutely hilarious!
We Trust The Fridge
Going on holiday? Again, another fantastic observation - that we unplug everything, apart from the fridge. That appliance has never let us down, now has it? As if, akin to movies where toys come to life, the appliances decide to turn themselves on and misbehave whilst you're away!
The Loft Whores
Why don't men allow women to enter the loft? The claim is that it is far too dangerous for women. For all you know, men have a bar setup there, and a jacuzzi, with the obvious addition of female company who are, obviously attired in all the clothes that don't fit you anymore! A woman's role is limited to the "passer upper".
Hopefully that has enticed your tastebuds. From performing at the Edinburgh Fringe to an audience of just 25 to selling out the biggest venues, with comedy that everybody can relate to, this is one DVD you will secretly want in your Christmas stocking! In addition there is range of merchandise with McIntyre's key phrases, including an eye mask and various T-shirts etc. A refreshing talent well worth a watch!
Thank you for reading!
Michael Mcintyre is relatively new in the world of comedians but due to his numerous guest appearances on shows such as Mock the Week and 8 out of 10 cats he has shot to fame very quickly. His unique style of comedy involves describing simple everyday tasks or objects and to make humour out of them, and this is done to devastating effect. This is almost always found funny and well received by us the viewers due to people being able to relate to it, quite clever on his part really. Probably my favourite comedian at the moment, Mcintyre's Live and Laughing show will have you in stitches from beginning to end. The jokes are so simple and his face expressions and actions so funny you will find it hard to keep a straight face. This show is full of new gags and previously unseen material which really highlights and shows off what a fine British comedian Michael Mcintyre really is. I would highly recommend this to anybody who likes the comedy genre as he is far funnier than most stand-ups such as Lee Evans and Peter Kay, long may his comedy capers keep on coming!
This DVD is comedy gold, it's very fun and is good value, containing lots of new material. However, it is still quite expensive this long after release which is quite annoying.
The DVD cover isn't the best, with a rubbish design but that doesn't matter.
The DVD is very funny, hitting the spot. It's got lots of subjects covered and different types of laughs to please his current fans, but also to gain more. It's got lots of new material, so the DVD is good value but it also sees the return of some of his classic which have been updated to bring some new laughs.
The DVD can also be watched again and again, as you will be laughing all the way through. This means you will catch some new, even funnier jokes the 2nd, or even 3rd time through.
It's great traditional observational comedy, better than Frankie Boyle or the others who rely on hate and cruelty.
The DVD is also quite long, with about 85 minutes of material. It's really quite good, and it feels like you have more than that as you can watch it many times and still laugh, it hardly gets old.
Again, the comedy is also good, with hardly any bad language and clean comedy without no abuse towards anyone, it's a breath of fresh air.
However, the DVD is still sold at a high price, which can be quite annoying. It's quite expensive at about £12. At least it shows that it must be a good DVD if people are still willing to pay the high price, and I can say it is worth it for all of the different times you can watch it and still laugh.
Overall, a great DVD with true comedy. There's hardly any bad language and lots of clean laughs, hardly anyone making fun of people. It might be a high price, but it's worth it for anyone who would like a laugh.
Michael McIntyre has really made a name for himself as a comic in the last year or so - his comic roadshow on the BBC in particular has made him a vital talent in providing a platform for other struggling comics, and his style has evidently been very popular with the release of this DVD.
At heart I am flagrantly a bigger fan of more risque comedy like Frankie Boyle, but McIntyre's brand of more observational, quirky humour succeeds largely because of his own charm. He rarely swears and instead focuses on his charismatic delivery, and although he speaks at length about his wife and child, you wouldn't be too remiss if you thought that he was gay.
Although it's not as crude as the aforementioned Frankie Boyle, it's not a squeaky clean affair by any means; there are some daring jokes but it's delivered in what's typically a more acceptable way than the cross-the-line manner of Boyle. He's also a lot more harmless and less acerbic than Boyle whilst also being rather witty and clever.
While a lot of people have criticised Boyle's stand-up DVD for essentially recycling jokes from Mock the Week (or vice versa, as the stand-up was filmed a while before it was release), this reportedly doesn't suffer the same fate; newer episodes of At the Apollo do see the odd jibe creep in, but mostly this is fresh stuff that he doesn't seem to repeat so much.
There's not so much swearing here, but there's enough daring and outrageous humour to please most about everyone; in particular a jibe about his son, who appears to possibly be anti-semetic is rather memorable. It's less hate-driven than Boyle or Carr, whilst also still being devastatingly funny.
Michael McIntyre has got to be one of my favourite comedians along with Bill Bailey.
In this dvd Michael is hilarious, he goes through various topics involving real life. One of my favourites is the one about the 'man drawer', he uses this one a lot in other programmes he has been on, and it really is one to remember.
Also is his rant about 'the traffics a nightmare on a friday'. This sketch has my whole family in stiches.
The main thing I like about Michael is the fact that he doesnt just stand still talking, he skips and acts out what he is talking about. The fact that hes a posh Londener doing this all adds to the comedy. To see what I mean youl have to buy the dvd.
This is comedy the whole family can watch, Michaels very well spoken, doesnt swear and is very professional in dealing with hecklers.
In the extra features theres also an hour long performance of Michael at the Apollo which features a few of the same jokes but theres also some other material in there.
If you like sarcastic comedy about real life situations in ways youve never thought about them before then you will love this.
I buy it for all my friends for presents as its just brilliant. It costs around £16.99 in HMV but Im sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere on the net.
If you've seen Michael Mcintyre in clippets on Mock The Week, it doesn't do justice to how great he is at stand up. This dvd is proof of that. If you don't like it then you don't get comedy. Being chosen for the Royal Variety Show and Live At The Apollo as well as appearing on Mock The Week several times and having his own bbc show "Michael Mcintyre's Comedy Roadshow" with various brilliant stand up comedians makes this dvd well worth the cost.
Talking about things that plague us in every day life including flights, "think p***k, say tut" and a full 10 minute gab about the infamous man drawer leaves you laughing from start to end.
No matter how many times you watch it you can still get a laugh. I think i've watched mine so many times that it might break the next time I use it!
Michael McIntyre in my opinion is one of the best stand ups in the UK. I think his style of stand up is very accesable to the general public. He doesn't use a great deal of bad language, and he takes the michael out of groups/nations, but not in an offensive way.
Michael McIntyre has great observation, and like many good stand-ups he has me laughing due to the fact that I do the things he's describing or I know someone that does. To be honest, I don't think there are many stand ups that I've agreed so much with.
Observation is obviously important in comedy, but MM also tells jokes superbly well! He's quite unique in the way he tells them, he kind of laughs as he's telling a joke, which I often hate when people do that, but he completely gets away with it. His posh speaking voice and slightly camp style is again very appealing, again I don't usually like or relate to well spoken or camp stand ups, but he does it all in a subtle way, and it's completely acceptable and funny.
Finally I have to mention they guys energy. He speaks with so much enthusiasm, and could easily make a dull story interesting, coupled with his physical movements, he's also quite partial to prance around the stage to further display his point.
A superb stand up act, and I have seen him many times now, and everytime he is original and funny.
I never planned on watching Michael McIntyre until I saw an interview of him on Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson. I changed my mind as I thought he was pretty funny and I decided to watch his stand up show. I am glad that I did.
Michael McIntyre talks about everyday situations and will really make you laugh. He has great personalty and jumps around on stage. His voice can get quite squeaky and loud during parts but that's not a bad thing and will just make you laugh even more.
I would recommend this DVD to anyone as the language and content is not bad. There are hardly any swears and the content is something that will make the whole family laugh. This DVD also includes his performance on 'Live At The Apollo' which is just great and will also make you laugh out loud. This DVD will make a great gift item that anyone can enjoy. Also just a note that at the time of writing this review this can be watched on BBC iplayer for free in high quality.
