I'm a fan of stand-up comedy. If even a remotely known stand-up comedian visits my local theatre then I'm there. I've seen live comedians such as Ken Dodd, Lee Evans, Jo Brand, Rob Brydon, Craig Charles, Jack Dee, Jeff Green, Ardal O'Hanlon, and others. So basically, I like stand-up comedy!

After seeing comedian Michael McIntyre on TV shows such as Mock of the Week several times and finding him quirky and funny, I knew exactly what to ask for when my brother & sister-in-law asked what I wanted for Christmas - Michael McIntyre's Live & Laughing DVD.

Live & Laughing is McIntyre's first live DVD, but despite only recently coming to the public's attention (via TV), he was a "Best Newcomer" nominee in the 2003 Edinburgh Festival and has sold out performances not only at Edinburgh Festival, but also in his home city of London. Most recently he has been nominated for "Best Live Stand-up" at the British Comedy Awards 2008 as well as being nominated for 'Best Comedy' at the 2009 South Bank Show Awards on ITV. So Michael McIntyre most definitely has comedy credentials!

The DVD is rated 15 for containing strong language and I'm guessing that's due to his early morning airport joke (for reasons of language content and not wanting to spoil it for you, I won't repeat it here). Along with a show from Michael McIntyre's Live & Laughing tour, the DVD also has an extra which is his performance on BBC1's Live At The Apollo, so really you get 2 shows on one DVD!

Live & Laughing was recorded on the first night of McIntyre's sell out 5 night run at London's Hammersmith Apollo in 2008. McIntyre is energetic as he struts across the stage throughout his performance, rarely is he still. He comes across slightly camp and even touches upon this in his routine (However, he is married with 2 kids as you find out during the course of the show).

Remember the camp Scottish guy from the 2008 Big Brother series? McIntyre does a great mickey-take of him. Honestly, he takes him off to a tee!

He uses observational comedy and I sat watching and laughing as I remembered similar situations. One of the quotes on the back is from The Scotsman newspaper and it says "Makes you laugh until your face hurts", well when I watched the DVD I laughed until I could hardly breathe! The crowd loved him too.

I loved the Live & Laughing show so much that I immediately moved onto the "Extra" of Live at the Apollo... well, once I was able to breathe properly again!

Honestly, he's hilarious and I would recommend anyone to watch Michael McIntyre's Live & Laughing DVD, especially if you've enjoyed him on such shows as Mock The Week.
