Advantages: Great jokes, funny as anything I can think of.
Disadvantages: None
I first saw Michael McIntyre in his first appearance on Mock The Week. He was the newcomer of the group so he was sort of bullied during his first show, which made for some entertaining scenes with him and Dara O'Brian. You could tell it wasn't mean or anything, but it was hilarious. Anyway, after seeing this I thought I should check out some of his material, and after a few minutes on Youtube I knew I had to buy his DVD. So off I trotted... To Amazon... I bought it for £6.99 off there.
When it arrived I popped it into my Xbox 360 that night, I realised after that watching this DVD at 1am was not the best of ideas and got a scathing reception from my parents upon waking them up laughing. Yes, it's just that good. Michael tends to focus on human characteristics and those cliches we all know. Starting off well talking about traffic, and why everyone says traffic is a nightmare on a Friday. Everyone says this, but no-one knows why. ANother one of the main focal points of the show is his gag on the masculine things all men do. Such as never letting his wife in the loft, seemingly it is too dangerous, and having the ever present "Man draw". Probably the funniest gag of the show is when he toys with ideas of why men have all these completely useless things in their Man draw, such as keys for mystery locks, dead baterries and foreign currency from years long gone by. He goes through a gag simulating an event which this "Man draw" would be prepared for. It's truly hilarious and i've not laughed so hard in a long time, this is what woke my parents up. The best thing about Michael McIntyre is that his jokes are all based around things we have all thought or done and weeks later you will see something that reminds you of the DVD and chuckle to yourself a bit. As well as connecting with his jokes, the show is also made funnier by him revisiting jokes from other parts of the show, I think this makes it flow a lot better and catches you off guard at some points. For example, near the end of the show he refers to the traffic joke right at the beginning of the show. This ending gag is also pretty hilarious as he talks about his son learning to talk and unintentionally making himself out to look like a paedophile at the nursery. This review would have made a lot more sense if I could include jokes from the DVD in it, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so all I can say is that you MUST go and buy this DVD, it's one of the best Stand Up Comedy shows in a long while. In fact, I can only think of Sean Lock and Frankie Boyle who have made me laugh more than this DVD.
Summary: Absolutely brilliant stand up show.
