Advantages: Funny - Not offensive - very little bad language - we can all relate to the comedy
Disadvantages: His voice does sometimes become high and squeaky
For Christmas last year I bought my husband the Michael McIntyre Live and Laughing DVD. Michael McIntyre seemed to appear from nowhere and was suddenly on every comedy show and even Breakfast television. I had seen him do his routine on Live at the Apollo and thought he was very funny and a few days later my husband said he had seen the DVD advertised and would quite like it.
I got the DVD from www.amazon.co.uk where it is currently available for £12.98.
Shortly after Christmas we decided to watch the DVD and I was really pleased with it. The DVD was heavily advertised on television and so I had seen some of the act but none of it had been on Live at the Apollo or Mock the Week that I had seen.
Michael has quite an easy style of stand up comedy and it is the sort of thing you could happily watch with your Gran without feeling embarrassed by the language or content. Michael seems full of life and energy and bounds around the stage like an excitable puppy. He comes across as a very likable person who is just normal like the rest of us. He talks about every day things that we can all relate to and often uses physical comedy to emphasise his point. There is very little bad language in Michael's routine and nothing that could be considered offensive or derogatory. He does talk a little bit about sex but it is not graphic or sexists or in any way just said to shock. There is no audience participation in Michaels act but I don't think that anything is lost by this. He is sort of telling a story rather than hoping for any type of interaction so I think that this suits his style of stand up.
The only thing that I felt was a bit off putting sometimes was that Michael did tend to get a bit over excited and his voice does get quite high and squeaky at times, He also puts on strange accents which can get a bit annoying after a while. This didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the DVD but it was just enough for me to wish he'd just stop it.
I notice that Michael has another DVD out this year called Live 2009 which I will be buying for my husband as a gift for Christmas.
I really enjoyed this DVD and would recommend it to anyone as I don't think there is any reason not to like it.
Summary: A great way to spend a night in
