Advantages: Another chrissy film.
Disadvantages: Could be viewed as a rehash of older classics.
We, as in me and my family, follow the same protocol every year in regards to Christmas preparations, these always start with the obligatory Christmas films, hence this review!
The dvd I will now review is - Mickey's magical Christmas - snowed in at the house of mouse"
Now, this first came to my attention few years ago, my daughters first Christmas to be concise, this was at the time available on video, ideal as we couldn't afford a dvd player in those days.
Since the upgrading of systems to dvd's and the eventual demise of our long suffering video player, we have had to do without some of our best Christmas films, well not anymore!
After perusing through the ever expanding selection of dvd's available at our local Asda I was delighted to find a couple of the afore mentioned films now available on dvd, and all at a bargain price, £4.00 to be exact.
This particular dvd is based around a Disney program that used to be shown on Sunday mornings called "House of mouse", these were short cartoons based around Mickey Mouse and his closest friends, this dvd is a longer and obviously more Christmassy version of the show.
The particular story starts as the so called "House of mouse" show is just finishing. Mickey is just saying his goodbyes to all of his friends in the "house". When I say house it's more like a theatre with a stage, and of course Mickey is the star of the show, and when I say friends I actually mean every character that has graced the screens of a Disney show or cartoon and boy are there a few!
Just as chucking out time arrives and the guests are starting to leave, they realise that they are snowed in (hence the title, clever!).
When this revelation hit's the guests they do what it seems they always do, turn to Mickey for advice, and this is when the program really starts!
The dvd is actually a rehash of older (and some never previously seen), cartoons, all of course Christmas themed.
Each cartoon is seamlessly held together with little scenes from all the favourite characters, ie Minnie, Daisy duck, Donald, Chip N Dale etc..........
The culmination of the dvd is of course the film of Scrooge and all the characters experiencing the joy and fulfilment of the festive season, and I don't think I have included too many spoilers, this is Disney after all, what were you expecting death and disaster!
This is a lovely film, warm and fuzzy and at times very humorous. At times and usually featured in the films, there are a few celebrity voice over's, the best known being John Cleese as the narrator in the sugar plum fairy clip.
The running time for the dvd is 59 minutes, this is not too long for a young 'un to sit still for, and as there is so much going on in the film they never get bored and tend to find new things to see each time!
There are a few extras on this disc these being - The sounds of Christmas, and two sing along songs, "Deck the halls and sleigh ride", these are effectively karaoke songs with the words appearing across the bottom of the screen.
As I mentioned before the dvd only cost me £4.00 when it first came out last Christmas, now they may be giving it away!
This is highly recommended, a fun and Christmassy film, suitable for the entire family, young or old!
