- MISERY - Released in 1990, written by Stephen King and directed by Rob Rein. 'Misery' stars Kathy Bates and James Caan. - Genre Thriller/Horror, Running time 100 minutes and BBFC Rating: 18. - Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is a very successful writer. He has used the heroine called 'Misery' in most of his books, but he has now decided to 'kill her off' so to speak. As is his want, when he is preparing to write a new book, he takes off to the hills for some peace and quiet, a little bit of thinking time and some inspiration. The character Misery has been his 'money spinner' in quite a few of his novels so far, but he ... Read the complete review

This is just one of the crop of Stephen King based films that made it to the screens in the late 80s and early 90s. Based on his best seller of the same name, Misery tells the story of author Paul Sheldon, who is about to put out the final chapter of his Misery series of books. During a snow blizzard, Sheldon's car is thrown off the road, leaving him for dead. Luckily for him, a local ex-nurse by the name of Annie finds him and takes him back to her secluded house to nurse him back to health. On the discovery that Annie is a fan of his Misery series, Paul grants her access to his final book, as a thank you for her kindness. A sinister side to her ... Read the complete review

When famous author Paul Sheldon completes his new book earlier than expected, he decides to leave the quiet hotel he has been staying in and return home. Unfortunately, on the way, he gets caught in a blizzard and crashes the car. When he comes to, he finds he has been rescued by an uber-fan of his books called Annie Wilkes. Annie is a nurse and manages to patch up his broken and battered body, just as well because the weather conditions preclude a trip to the hospital and contact with the outside world. But then Paul realises that Annie is planning to keep him all to herself, particularly as she is not too keen on the way he has written his latest book. Will Paul ever ... Read the complete review

Stephen King’s novels have always seemed stupid to me. If any of you don’t know, I hate films that can’t happen in every day life. Take The Green Mile for instance. An awful film that left me feeling stupid. Stupid that I’d watched such a thing. But, Stephen King seems to have taken time out of writing shit novels, and done this one, excellent novel. I never read the book, but the film I did see. The film that left me startled, shocked, amazed, and pretty scared! Paul Sheldon – James Caan Annie Wilkes – Kathy Bates Buster – Richard Farnsworth Virginia – Frances Sternhagen Director ... Read the complete review

Watching this movie will make you cringe in a few places but it will also make you laugh as well,I would personally class it more as a physcological thriller rather than a horror movie because there isn't really any blood and guts kind of stuff.I suppose it is in the horror category as it's based on a Stephen King book. Anyway read on and I will tell you more. Paul Sheldon crashes his car on a snowy mountain road and is rescued by a strapping lass going by the name of Annie Wilkes. So what? I hear you asking, keep reading. He wakes up to find Annie has taken him home to her farm to nurse him, as the weather was so bad it was impossible to get to a ... Read the complete review
