Advantages: A COUPLE OF REASONABLY SCARY SCENES.
Disadvantages: NOTHING AT ALL LIKE THE BOOK.
I didn't find the film anywhere as good as the book.
I understand that in most cases a film has to be condensed but many of the key parts were unfortunately not included.
Nothing in the film portrayed any instance of Paul Sheldon having his thumb sliced off by Annie and her electric knife!
Nither did he get his foot cut off ( hobbling' ) as Annie called it, after she found that he had been out of his room. Instead a sledgehammer was used to smash both ankles so I suppose this was somewhere near.
And not a glimmer of the young cop who came to check things out, ending up being stabbed almost to death by a wooden cross- bearing Annie who finally finishes him off by riding over him with her' Lawnboy' ride - on mower taking off half of his head in the process.
Also karate hitting Paul on his swollen and dislocated knee joint when she was in one of her 'brain - outs' would have been much more scary and shocking, as in the book, than just throwing a pack of A4 paper instead. O.K. I know this would still be very painful but the film did not really show this to any extent.
To anyone who has seen the film, I would say please find time to read the book as you will not be dissappointed.
This film did not have the punch that I was expecting but to be fair I would say it could be well worth a watch if there is nothing much on T.V. It's not boring but does tend to drag on somewhat.
From Jon - Dorset
Summary: WORTH A WATCH IF THERE IS NOTHING MUCH ON T.V.

hogsflesh - 24/11/08 I'd have preferred to read a review of the film, rather than a list of scenes from the book that aren't in it. |
