Advantages: A movie to make you laugh.
Disadvantages: Don't laugh with your mouth full of popcorn.
I went last week to see this film on a date with my mum. Ah! She laughed so loudly at one point she pebbledashed the guy in front with her popcorn. Unbeknown to the poor fellow he left the cinema with it still stuck in his hair and we almost wet ourselves in the bargain. This film stars Sandra Bullock as a female FBI agent, Benjamin Bratt as her FBI colleague with a potential for a little more than that judging by the chemistry between them (watch out Julia Roberts!) and Michael Caine as a pageant beauty therapist. Remember James T Kirk of the Starship Enterprise..well even he shows up in this film. He looks a bit strange though. His eyes seem to have sunk into his head or maybe his head has sunk into his neck. I couldn't quite put my finger on it but there's definitely some plastic surgery gone wrong going on with him. Anyway you have got to watch this film it is absolutely brilliant. Sandra Bullock and Michael Caine were made for this movie. Bullock is cast as a down to earth, feminist tomboy who is completely against any kind of glamour and has a huge chip on her shoulder to constantly prove her self. Caine is cast as a gay beauty therapist who in times past has styled, groomed and articulated many beautiful girls into winning beauty queens but now has been thrown out of the popular incrowd because he face fits no more. The minute they meet they are both horrified by what each other stands for and so begins a comic duo with Caine doing everything he can to turn Bullock into a lady (watch out for the haemorroid cream and the silicone inserts!) and Bullock doing everything she can to annoy him. The transformation of Bullock from tomboy to glamour queen is fantastic she has an amazing ability to look both girl next door and supermodel on separate occasions. There is comedy, there is suspense, there is glamour, there is girl power, there is cop stuff, there is intrigue and they even find time to drop in a little r
omance. Top movie, well written, well cast. The End.

- 12/04/01 Sorry to say this one wasn't my cup of tea. I thought it took the micky out of beauty contests and attempted to copy the 'British' sense of humour in truly awful yankee style. |
