Miss Pettigrew is a nanny who has just been fired from the latest in a string of failed positions. She returns to the agency who have set up the jobs for her, but they tell her there's nothing available. However, she overhears them talking about Delicia LaFosse, a lady who is in need of an employee. So, when nobody's looking, Miss Pettigrew takes Delicia's card and goes to her address. She tells her that she's been sent by the agency. It turns out that Delicia doesn't have any children and Miss Pettigrew is at a loss, but Delicia wants Miss Pettigrew to be her social secretary.
