Advantages: Some great extra?s

Disadvantages: Some predictable moments

If only the DVD of the first film was as attractive as this DVD, I'd get it right now. The Mission Impossible 2 DVD has got some good extra's, its not a bad film, and there's plenty of action.

~~Introduction~~
I never used to like Tom Cruise, but these days I seem to quite like his films. As I had watched Mission Impossible (which confused me the first time I saw it), and quite liking it, seeing this in a second hand shop for £10 after recently buying a DVD player meant I just had to get it.

This film as with the first, centre's around the exploits of agent Ethan Hunt, and is based on the old TV series, Mission Impossible - not something I've watched. Much like a number of films coming out these days that's been based on old TV series' (Lost In Space, Charlies Angels, The Avengers, etc.), Some I've watched others I've only heard about, so I can't compare this to the series; only give an opinion of how I liked the film itself.

~~The Plot~~
A message is sent from a scientist friend of Ethans, wanting Ethan to escort him and something called Chimera, to safety. Unfortunately a fellow agent, Sean Ambrose, steals chimera, Ethan (whilst on holiday), receives a message. His mission, should he chose to accept it, is to chose any two IMF agents, recruit a woman, Nyah Hall, and to recover chimera. He finds Nyah, and also finds that he and she are attracted to each other and begin a relationship. Ethan meets with his superior, and they suspect Ambrose of stealing chimera and want Nyah (Sean Ambrose's ex girlfriend) to resume her relationship with Ambrose, and to find out what his plans are and what chimera is (in order to recover it), but is it going to be that simple?, somehow I doubt it.

~~Details~~
Other than Tom Cruise, you have, Anthony Hopkins playing his superior (which surprised me (I hadn't heard anything about this film before I bought it)), Dougray Scott, playing Sean Amb
rose and Thandie Newton, Playing Nyah Hall. Made in 2000, its 118 minutes long, Directed by John Woo, and, in the UK at least, rated 15.

~~My Opinion~~
Mission Impossible 2 (or M:I-2, as its actually called), much like other secret agent type films, is full of action, high tech gadgets, car chases, disguises and the like. I did feel that the 'pulling the mask off the face to reveal that its actually someone else', was a little over used (in one part of the film you wonder how he came to have the exact masks he needed, at that particular time), and to be honest there wasn't actually that many gadgets.

One of the things I liked about this film (as with the first and Entrapment) was its multi national feel. Its not a bunch of Americans, in America saving the world (Independence Day, Men In Black, spring to mind), but you have a bunch of multi national actors playing multi national people in different countries. Each country is portrayed as the country would do itself, with respect. In fact the different countries aren't even overstated, the places could be anywhere: all of this is good, it makes the film seem more real, and not about one country trying to get one over on another - its quite refreshing.

There is some nice wide open location shots, which I love. I've seen films where all the events take place in dingy little buildings or its all too dark, I hate that, so this is quite a bright film, making it more enjoyable (for me at least).

One thing I didn't like, which came towards the end of the film - Ethan does seem to do quite a lot of, almost unnecessary, killing, and even seems to enjoy some of the violence. In fact, one part, I actually found a little distressing.

There is, of course plenty of guns, explosions, death defying feats, some really quite brilliant and amazing shots, one or two plot twists and a couple of quite clever parts, which I won't spoil the film by telling you abou
t. The acting is good and so is the music - music isn't something I notice in film so much, so for me to notice it in this must mean its quite good.

~~DVD Extra's Opinion~~
There?s quite a few, making it a nice buy (I believe the first has only the trailer). I don't have a DVD ROM drive, so I can't tell you about the DVD ROM features, but the fact that there included is great, your paying more for DVD's but your also getting more. Not so much buying a film to watch, but buying an experience.

The DVD featurette's are how they did the stunts and such - with John Woo and Tom Cruise, (you have to press play each time, to view them, which is a little annoying), the other extra's are good, nothing great (the parody is quite good though), but its nice there included, and of course you have all the usual.

~~Conclusion~~
M:I-2 has some really good stuff in it, Its an enjoyable watch, I could have done without the love story, but otherwise its pretty not bad. Its not as good as the first, but I can?t think why, its all bigger and better, I just get the feeling there?s something missing, but I wouldn?t worry about it, just enjoy the film.

I'd recommend it, and would love to see another.
