Advantages: All action, not too taxing, wonderful to look at, Thandie Newton!
Disadvantages: Bit gratuitous
It's not as bad as you think! MI:2 has taken a right pasting in the 'papers, but for some reason I was strangly drawn to go and see it myself, just to see if it WAS really that bad..... and it's not! It's really quite good! I think people expect too much from these sorts of films. If you're expecting thought provoking storylines and Oscar winning acting performances, you're going for the wrong reasons. If you want a spectatular explosion fest of an action-movie that isn't too taxing on the old grey cells, this is for you! The first Cruise film Mission Impossible was slated for being too complex and this one definately doesn't make the same mistake. Dougray Scott is the bad-guy, with a deadly virus he intends to make pots of cash from with the anti-virus, Tom Cruise is the good-guy out to stop him, and it's a straight fight....... well ok, there are a few twists and turns along the way. There's Tom Cruise to look at for the girls (if you like that sort of thing) and Thandie Newton looking lovely for the lads. And for both to enjoy there are explosions, car-chases, bike chases, shoot-outs, punch-ups and ridiculous spy-like weaponary and gadgets galore. If I had to be critical; there were a few too many disguises for my liking and some of the fight scenes are a 'bit' gratuitous and go on a wee bit too long..... but hey, it's a John Woo movie! It's not the best film you'll ever see, but it's definately not the worst. Don't expect too much from this film and you can't fail to enjoy it...... you can even have a laugh at some of the outrageous moves Cruise pulls off!
