... the kids, it becomes clear that his house is not haunted, but actually a monster itself, created from the spirit of Nebbercracker's deceased wife. The three kids decide the only way to save the upcoming trick-and-treaters from being devoured by the Monster House is to destroy it once and for all. I really enjoyed the plot, as it seemed genuinely eerie and the personification of the house was done very well, especially the scenes when the children are inside the house and it feels like they're inside the stomach of a ...more

Crowned ReviewMonster House (DVD): It's a Briiiick House (1103 words)

It’s an age old question that has plagued man even since they crawled out of the ooze; how do you introduce kids to the horror genre? We know that their minds are very impressionable during their development; to the point were some children are scared to watch Paul Daniels (and rightly so). Do you go the route I did and watch something like ‘Nightmare on Elmstreet’ or ‘Critters’ before you are ten? I survived, but it’s given me an obscure taste in film! Seriously though, with films becoming increasingly scary, at a lower certificate, do children need to be prepared? The Lord of the Rings trilogy or ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’ were all dark, but only  Read the complete review

Monster House: Not Monster Fun! (525 words)
by - written on 28/10/09 (Very useful, 53 readings)

I purchased Monster House last Christmas for my 5 year old nephew. For some reason my sister and I decided maybe we should watch it first as he can have quite an active imagination and we didn't want it to scare him. Well, all I can say is he didn't get it for Christmas last year, maybe this year he will! ** Summery ** DJ (Mitchel Musso) lives opposite a house which looks quite mean, suiting its occupant who is equally as mean; Mr Nebbercracker (Steve Buscemi). Mr Nebbercracker hates children and confiscate any toys that happen to land anywhere on his property. The neighbourhood gossip surrounding the house is that Mr Nebbercracker was married ...  Read the complete review

Monster House (DVD): Monsterous! (1111 words)

I am a big fan of animated movies as they are fun and a bit crazy and they can basically take you anywhere you can think of. When I heard about Monster House I wanted to go and see at the cinema but as usual nobody would go with me as they said it looked rubbish. It came out on video and I suggested renting it for the night much to the disgruntled moans from my family. Anyway I persuaded my sister to sit down and watch it with me and do you know what? She actually enjoyed it as well as me so here is why this film is silly but ever so much fun. ----- The Film: A child is cycling down a nice friendly neighbourhood from what it looks ...  Read the complete review

Monster House, Nebbercracker's Undercrackers!? Hmmmm (437 words)

We watched Monster House last night & I was really expecting to not like it at all... But it was alright! Quite enjoyable at times, some great voice actors and one character, Chowder, was very funny! Monster House is an Animated film made in 2006, Presented by Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg, so you know that it's going to be pretty creditable. I think I forgot that this is a Children's Film so when the "Horror" element was turned up during the film it wasn't scary in the slightest! Not for me anyway! It might be quite scary for a youngster though. Three kids DJ, Chowder (my favourite character) and Jenny discover that ...  Read the complete review

Monster House (DVD): This time, the House is the Monster (540 words)
by - written on 03/03/12 (Very useful, 15 readings)
Rating:

Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks have pretty much cornered the market on computer animated feature films, with at least one release every year from one of those studios, so it is rare for other companies to compete against the animated titans, but Monster House, released by Columbia Pictures did just that. Unlike the other studios, this film has a different feel to it, almost adolescent in tone, akin to a Goonies sequel, rather than the less mature competition of Shrek and Kung Fu Panda. The plot focuses on a trio of young children, who discover that the creepy house in the neighbourhood is a whole lot creepier than they could ever imagine. The owner of the house, ...  Read the complete review
