Advantages: sulley swoon, made me laugh and cry, worth the money
Disadvantages: none
OK, im a relative newbie to this great site so im gonna try and do my first movie review. The DVD was bought from tesco at a cost of £16.96, but it has two discs, so a bargain at twice the price. Disc one mainly consists of behind the scenes at disney/pixar, their next feature film release, audio commentary, and surround sound effects mix. Now for the good bit - Disc Two - before the main movie there is a short animated film (which won an academy award for best animated short film). Its about a group of birds sitting on a telephone wire basically and they are joined by what only I can describe as a crane (of the bird sort I mmight add). Very very funny piece and it makes you think if this is this good whats the movie gonna be like. So now I move on to the main feature Monsters Inc. Another collaboration by disney/pixar those responsible for making the fabulous Toy Story one and two. Monstroplois is a place where yes you guessed it is inhabited by monsters. Monsters Inc is a large factory where they get the energy they require by scaring children and bottling their screams. Bring in sulley (swoon) hes a large turquoise and purple monster who is top scarer at monsters inc and he is assisted by his small one eyed friend mike wazowski. His arch rival randolf is a chameloen who is behind sulley in the scaring stakes and his aim is to beat sulleys record (or so we think, the plot thickens) Outside of work hours sulley goes back to file some paperwork for his friend mike as mike has a hot date with celia that he cannot refuse, when going back to the scare floor he notices a door still left behind, looks through the door doesnt see anything and comes back out - with a child on his back little to his knowledge, and this is where the fun begins. The rest of the movie is based on the monsters of motropolis trying to find the girl who they think could be deadly to them and all hell breaks loose whil
st they try to do this. Im not gonna spoil the rest of the plot for those of you who havent see it (to those aforementioned people ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MINDS). The effects in this film are second to none, it is so detailed, which we have come to expect from pixar. The characters actually have some weight in them, the fur on sulley is just amazing, in one scene the wind is blowing him and you can actually see his fur moving separately. This film is for both adults and children alike. It is a heartwarming tale which has some morals to it. I especially liked the humour in it which I would say is mainly aimed at the adult population coz some of it was way over the heads of my youngest children. These are by far the best animations offered from pixar and dare I say more than rival toy story. The cute factor is a toddler girl who sulley named "boo", and watching the relationship grow between boo and sulley always has me in tears (ok ok I am hormonal at the moment). Its a typical good guy vs bad guy and good guy takes out bad guy in spectacular fashion. My favourite characther has got to me Roz (who secretly works for the child detection agency CDA), she is a scary woman *shudder*. There are some serious, heartwarming, scary, funny, and thought provoking things in this movie, and I must say I bought it on DVD last week and Ive watched it (with my kids of course hehe) over ten times. A great movie for ANYONE, and I challenge anyone to tell me otherwise, probably my fave animated movie of all time. there are some more short stories on disc two like mikes car, but the bits I enjoyed the most apart from the movie are the outtakes at the end of the main movie, which makes you believe that these characters are real, nice touch. Overall a big thumbs up!!
