I loved this film. I have to admit I do not really like musicals but this isn't a traditional musical.

Nicole Kidman is fabulous as the beautiful cortisan and singer Satine and Ewan McGregor is charming as an impoverished writer, Christian. Following a case of mistaken identity they fall in love and are forced to hide it. I won't say too much more as I don't want to spoil it!

The film is romantic, dramatic and genuinely jaw dropping. The director Baz Luhrman is fantastic at creating such vivid colour and movement it almost seems like an animation. I was already a huge fan of his previous works, strictly ballroom and Romeo and Juliet.

In addition to the visual delights, the music is fantastic. I think there is only one orignal song, 'come what may'. The rest of gthe music comes from adaptations of modern songs, including a truly unique rendition of Nivarna - Smells like teen spirit.
