*Film Only Review*

Unfortunately I didn't have the pleasure of watching this film at the cinema. What a wonderful experience that would have been, I'll just have to make do with the dvd and our 42" TV.

I bought the dvd on a whim, the trailer was on TV and looked so colourful and exciting and I wasn't let down in the slightest. What a brilliant film! The music is excellent also, featuring many modern tunes while the film is set in the early 20th century, however it fits perfectly. Baz Lurman has produced a true classic which will stay with you forever. I can't imagine anyone else in the leading roles either, Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman were made for this film!

Christian (Ewan McGregor) plays a travelling poet trying to find work in France and gets discovered by a group of amatuer dramatics. He begins writing a play for them to be acted at the famous nightclub - the Moulin Rouge. Quite by accident he meets the beautiful coutesan, Satine, (Nicole Kidman) the star of the Moulin Rouge and they fall in love. It is not easy going though, a rich aristocrat has his evil eye on Satine and tries to split them up, wanting Satine all to himself.

Satine becomes ill but will not tell Christian, instead she begins lying to him and pushes him away. He believes she no longer loves him and leaves the Moulin Rouge. Sadness turns to anger and he returns on the night of his play being performed. During the play the evil aristocrat finds out he is there and orders for him to be killed. Thus begins an exciting behind-the-scenes chase, eventually ending up on the stage!

Whenever I watch the film I end up crying and laughing all the way through and feel like I have watched something special. The duets between the two lead actors are heart-felt and exciting, the visual excitement keeps coming throughout the fillm.
