Advantages: Just superb, Get's better every time you watch it
Disadvantages: Songs stick in your head!, Maybe not everyone's cup of tea
Not only has the film some big star names, directed by the director from Romeo and Juliet, this film can only be described as 'Something else'! If you think back to the most weird and wonderful scenes from Romeo and Juliet, and multiply them by 1000, then you will still be suprised at this films overall sureal but very very fun base. The story is the typical forbidden love story but with a few twists along the way...I won't say too much about it because, to be honest the story was pretty average. However, the screenplay was marvellous...you can easily get sucked right into the film and even find yourself singing along in parts. The film is a mixture of outrageous dancing and singing and it is guaranteed to have you in fits of laughter but also, you will be in floods of tears at the end....just superb. I was also very impressed with Ewan MsGregor - not only was he acting fantastically as usually, but his singing voice was superb. I am also greatly impressed that both he and Nicole Kidman managed to act some of these scenes without dissolving into laughter (I'm sure filming was a scream!). I have now seen this film twice and there are so many things that you miss in the first viewing - probably becasue there is so much going on. Watch out for all those familiar songs (which incidentally, you shall be singing for days afterwards!). I especially enjoyed 'Like A Virgin'...I'm sure Madonna was thrilled! Really that's all I can say about this entirely unique film...you must watch it (I can't imagine it on video!). Overall, it was Spectacular Spectacular! And the audience (well me anyway!) nearly did stand and cheer....and I'll bet people still watch it in 50 years! UPDATE..... I have just seen Moulin Rouge on video - and I swear it get's better every time I see it! I just love Ewan!!! I watched it with my mum and I don't think she was t
oo impressed....but I think you have got to give it a chance, watch it with an open mind, be prepared to be boggled! I still can't get over how fantastic the music was...sound track is just as good.... If you haven't seen it yet, get yourself down to Blockbuster....NOW!
