Advantages: great acting, so real

Disadvantages: none

Moulin Rouge has to be my favourite film of all time. I am not just saying that because I love to watch a romantic film but it is so classy, radiant and harmonious. I first heard of this film in the papers and it never really appealed to me at first because it seemed quite boring. I only thought this as in America it hadn't been much of a success, but now I think of it Americans don't share the British elegance in a film.

MAIN CAST
__________

Harold Zidler-Jim Broadbent
Toulouse Lautrec-John Leguizamo
The Duke-Richard Roxburgh
Satine-Nicole Kidman
Christian-Ewan McGregor

PLOT PART 1
___________

The film being called Moulin Rouge (red mill) sounds very posh and it is indeed, this was where the rich and upperclass men went to get their thrills with young and very pretty courtesans. The Sparkling Diamond being the main courtesan the one bringing in the most money as at the start she drops from the sky then belts out 'Sparkling Diamonds' a song from the soundtrack. All these rich men waving their money in the air hoping to be picked. She already knows who she will pick but mistakingly she picks Christian thinking he is 'the duke'. Christian is only in there to meet Satine and get his 'Spectacular Spectacular' performance written and performed but he has to know Satine before he meets Harold Zidler who will get this for him, hopefully.

The film begins with such colour, everyone dancing about to the blasts of music flying around the room. It's really quite magical and such a lovely sight even though it isn't knowns as lovely for nearby people.

SOUNDTRACK
__________

The most memorable thing in this film has to be the music! Baz Luhrmann produced a superior soundtrack, in which I love every song. This film being a musical the music is probably the most important thing. The clever thing about the music are there are many medleys, well not
many but a few and they are mixed with songs from many famous artists, the funniest one for me was Nirvana (smells like teen spirit) and also Madonna (like a virgin).

PLOT PART 2
___________
When Christian and Satine do meet and the scene taken in her room comes on that is very funny, she thinks he is the duke and everything he says is taken in another way.
Christian and Satine do fall in love. TRhe problems start when Harold Zidler finds this out and then Satine has to hide that she is in love with Christian. Satine has to think that she is a courtesan and that she makes men believe what they want and also that she can't fall in love. The music helps the love story between them both seems so real and they act well to portray it.

The 'Spectacular Spectacular' prduction is to be performed because the Moulin Rouge is decided to be turned into a theatre. Satine and Christian getting to work together in this the duke cannot stop them being together. His jealousy soon gets worse and if he doesn't get Satine for himself for just one night he will not put his money into the Moulin Rouge. This is when Harold really has to warn Satine to stop seeing Christian.

CONCLUSION
__________
Some may say this is a predictable movie in some parts but it is very touching and I got quite emotional near the end. I cannot say if the ending is cheerful or downhearted this is something people have to see for themselves. I wouldn't want to spoil the ending of such a fanatstic film. Great acting and just a superb film that cannot be missed.
