Advantages: music, cast, filming
Disadvantages: not appealing to everyone
This is personally my fave film but I'm not saying it has to be yours. Spectacular Spectacular (to use a song from the film) is how I'd rate it, but that's my opinoun and we're all different. Before you consider watching this film you need to ask yourself these questions: Do you enjoy musicals; singing and dancing?..and.. Do you like romantic films? If yes or sometimes then I think you're going to like this film. A little about the plot: Set in a Bohemian, all singing, all dancing Paris. The story centres around the events in the famous nightclub Moulin Rouge. A penniless poet, Christian enters the bohemian world to be confronted with madness and hilarity. He is asked to write a show for the Moulin Rouge in which Satine will be starring. Satine is the star of the Moulin rouge, she is payed to make men believe what they want. Christian falls in love with Satine and soon find the feeling is mutual but she is already taken, she has been promised to Zidler Zinfester, a rich Duke who has finaced the turning of the Moulin Rouge into a theatre. They must keep their love affair secret but will that be possible forever? The story is interspersed with many songs, some new and some recognisable. The dances throughout are fabulous, as is the set and scenery. The costumes are immense, really illustrating the style of the Moulin Rouge. If you think you like the sound so far then this film is for you!! I enjoyed it a lot. Nicole and Ewan portray the two characters convinvingly and both performances deserved more recognition than they actually recieved. Think of Moulin rouge like marmite: you either love it or you hate it.
