Oh dear, oh dear I'm still trying to fathom out how I managed to sit through 85 minutes of this drivel which was first shown back in 2007. The film cost $25 million and netting worldwide at the box office ten times that amount.
A couple of evenings back we were looking for a family film to sit down to watch and fell on this. My little boy likes Mr Bean and I felt it would be a nice uplifting film for us to all sit down and watch. As a rule I don't tend to watch Mr Bean. I find him quite frustrating and always find myself on edge. Yes I know it is meant to be entertainment but the fact you can see things 5 minutes before he does them I don't think helps. The fact he also can't speak besides a few droning moans doesn't help.
Without divulging too much of the story it starts with Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson) entering a raffle of which the first prize was a holiday in Cannes, France, along with some spending money and a camcorder. Not a lot can go wrong with that can it? No. Well as you'd expect in his case, yes.
He starts the holiday off alone but is not alone for too long on his eventful journey on the train south. His destination and events I will leave to yourselves to find out - although an element that may surprise many is the involvement of Mr Bean with a beautiful lady called Sabine played by Emma de Caunes. How romantic it got I won't say but fortunately you don't need to reach for your sick bags.
I found this film totally irritating and annoying. If it wasn't for the odd giggle from my little lad it would have gone off within 20 minutes. Even a few minutes of this slapstick humour is too much for me and it is understandable why many such programmes last for only a short period - maybe 20 minutes or so. Okay Laurel and Hardy could get away with longer silent movies but the writers and producers are not in that league and to have everybody else in the film talking except him is just plain stupid.
Do I recommend the fim? I wouldn't sit down and watch it if I was paid let alone through choice. For those who really do want to torture yourselves it is available new on Amazon for about a fiver.
