Despite not knowing the first thing about anything theatrical the recently widowed and very wealthy Mrs Henderson purchases an old run down theatre in London's West End and appoints Vivian Van Damm as the manager. This is a film based on true events and it is a film that always intrigued me enough to want to watch it. The other evening I finally got the chance. Mrs Laura Henderson, played by Dame Judi Dench is a 70 year old widow who on losing her husband has just returned back to England from India. She ponders what to do with her life, confiding in her best friend Lady Conway, played by Thelma Barlow, who informs her that wealthy older women in ... Read the complete review

Mrs Henderson Presents is a film which was my choice as I like Judy Dench. I had heard quite a lot about how good the film was so when I saw it for a bargain price I snapped it up. Judy Dench stars as Mrs Henderson who has recently lost her husband as is finding life is getting boring. Her best friend tells her that she needs to find a hobby. Everyone is shocked when Mrs Henderson takes this to the extreme and buys the Windmill Theatre! As she has no experience of the theatre and how it works she seeks a manager, She finds a very interesting man, Vivian Van Damm, played by Bob Hoskins who agrees to manage the theatre as long as he is given total ... I truly didn't expect anything much from this film. Judy Dench just shines through the whole movie, she plays the Mrs Henderson of the films title. she has just become a widow and has a lot of disposable income & her friend and confidant (Thelma Barlow of Coronation Street and Dinner Ladies fame) advises her to get a hobby or do something with her money. so she buys a theatre. In Windmill Street, London. Ah, legends are about to be forged but no-one yet knows it. She has no idea how to run a theatre, so she uses the old boy network to hire herself a manager to run the theatre. enter Mr Bob Hoskins playing Vivian van Damme and looking slightly like he did ... I really wanted to see this film as soon as I knew it was going to be made, mainly because Will Young appeared in it. So as soon as it was released off I popped to my local cinema, not quite knowing what to expect. The film is set around the start of the second world war, Mrs Henderson played by Judy Dench is recently widow, She is a wealthy woman and not used to being alone, she goes to her friend Lady Conway (Thelma Barlow) for advice on what to do. Lady Conway tells her that being a widow is easy, there is no one stopping her from doing the things she wants and spending what she likes. Mrs Henderson passes by an old run down theatre for sale when ... Read the complete review

I caught this film on telly one night as the only reason this film jumped out at me originally was because Will Young is in it, as I think he has a great voice and after winning pop Idol he deserves it, he makes an appealing debut as Bertie the male lead on stage. This film is based on a true story. This film is based in World War II; Mrs Henderson is played by Dame Judi Dench, who after her husband passes away buys The Windmill Theatre along with the help of Mr Vivian Van Dam played by Bob Hoskins whom becomes her business partner. The Germans are bombing London, but the roar of the Windmill is all that can be heard as Mrs Henderson ... Read the complete review
