... with claptrap such as this is ming boggling. The plot takes place in the year 2707, where a special machine found in Poland transforms humans into grotesque mutant creatures, who are driven by nothing more than the desire to capture humans, devastate them, and feed on them. A team of soldiers are sent to stop them, consisting of the aforementioned cast, as well as gravelly voiced Sean Pertwee, resulting in one of the least inspired plots in a long time - this is low rent cinema that, ironically, is an independent ...more

Mutant Chronicles (2208) Cert. 15. Okay, boring Monday, lets see what Virgin Media have to offer....ah, Ron Pearlman, John Malkovich, Sean Pertwee, directed by Simon Hunter who I have never heard of....must be worth a go. ~~~The Plot~~~ We are in the year 2720, much of the Earth has been ravaged for it's natural resources and big corporations are at global war for what is left. Here is problem number one. 700 years from now and we still have trench warfare, tin hats and corrugated iron for armour, doh! We also have strange flying machines powered by steam that remind me of the film Flash Gordon....I have expected a Queen ...  Read the complete review

Beware the mutants...if they actually did anything. (436 words)

With a name like 'the Mutant Chronicles' it's hard to really expect anything from this movie, but somehow it still manages to disappoint. Set in year 2707, in which technology has reversed rather than progressed, the major world powers are embroiled in a vicious battle for the planet's remaining resources, which is fought using pseudo-WW1 trench warfare and weaponry. Unfortunately the fighting unearths 'the machine,' an ancient and seemingly useless alien device that seems to have no greater purpose than to turn humans into ravenous mutants. Soon enough the entire planet is up to it's armpits in the low-budget lunatics, forcing a worldwide evacuation. Of course, a ...  Read the complete review

bits of other things makes for semi decent film (792 words)

For a film thats listed on Wikipedia as "released in an unfinished form" this is pretty good. Take bits of Silent Hill, Quake 4, The Trench and other various weird and wonderful sci-fi, horror and fantasy films and you get The Mutant Chronicles. I personally haven't heard of the Role Playing Game this is based on (because I'm not that much of a nerd) but fans of Silent Hill & Quake 4 will all be crying that this has mercilessly ripped off their ideas. Which is completely wrong as the original RPG was written way back in 1993 predating Quake 4 by 12 years and Silent Hill by 6 years so it appears the plot of this game has proved to ...  Read the complete review

The Mutant Chronicles. ****************** Introduction ********** It came from space......... It came to change man into mutants..... A war followed and was just about won. The machine was buried in the earth so it could do no more harm and there it waits......to be discovered. The Movie ******** The year is 2707 and four corporations rule the whole world and battle each other endlessly. The movie begins with trench warfare and even though set in the future it clearly depicts that war never changes no matter what the time period. The fighting is Gruesome, pointless and with lots of carnage and death. ...  Read the complete review
