I am surprised this film didn't do better commercially but I have been informed that it has now reached cult status in certain circles and in allot of ways I think thats better. Premium Review Mystery Men (DVD): spoofs around (616 words)
by - written on 16/10/09 (Very useful, 5 readings)
Rating:

You have to watch this film, then watch it again and then if you can hack it... watch it again and then hopefully you will understand just how amazingly great these Mystery Men really are! Coined with pure genius you have to understand to love. So basically there are all these super hero films coming out such as The Hulk, X men and Spiderman so there was obviously going to be a spoof. Of course there was bound to be a stupid wanna be funny move (superhero movie) which again was one of the worst pieces of film ever to be made and quite frankly an embarrassment. Here, however, you have a cleverly mastered Mickey take which actually makes ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A curious comic gem (216 words)

Look - superheroes with special powers. Or 'special' powers. Like Mr Furious (Ben Stiller) - enpowered by his all consuming rage, or The Blue Rajah (Hank Azaria) who fling forks with deadly speed and precision, and of course Invisible Boy, who can turn invisible. But only when no-one is watching. Including himself. In Champion City, all these are wannabe heroes, but there is only 1 truly great hero - Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear)! He's fast, he's strong, he's got sponsorship deals. Due to the lack of decent villains to combat he is losing the latter, so he decides to arrange for the release of his nemesis Casanova Frankenstein (Geoffrey Rush). Unfortunately Captain ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mystery Men (DVD): We're not your classic superheros. We're not the fa ... (934 words)

It looked stupid but I sometimes like stupid movies and I didn't have to pay to rent it so it seemed worth watching. Crime is on the decrease in Champion City and Captain Amazing is worried as without any big fights he'll soon lose his corporate sponsors, after searching his list of past villains and discarding the ones that are dead he finds that Casanova Frankenstein is up for parole and decides to make sure he gets it. When things go wrong and he gets captured it's up to a group of inept superheroes to save him. Finding themselves easily outmatched (after all they are inept) the 3 superheroes decide they need to find more people to join with ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review How Many Superhero's Does It Take To Change A Lightbulb? (1020 words)

Where do I start with Mystery Men, well the first thing that I have to say is that if you are going to watch this I would say that you should view this film with an open wind. This is a kind of spoof super hero film, which has actually been based on a comic book, so expect this film to be little strange in places. Also the humour that is used in the film is not to everyone’s taste I will admit, but it made me chuckle, which it always a good sign! ~~The Cast~~ Mystery Men as far as I know has one of the largest main cats that I have ever seen, on the advert for the film it lists the following actors/actresses: Hank Azeria, Claire Forlani, Janeane ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mystery Men (DVD): SUPER Heroes (535 words)

Oh the shame!I thought I'd look up one of my favourite films of last year and was shocked to see only two reviews and an average of one and a half stars!.All due respect to my contemporaries and they both got a VU for their well argued efforts but I do feel they have missed the point a bit. The film is set in Champion City which enjoys a crime free existence due to the efforts of superhero Captain Amazing who has all the powers and witty one liners we've grown to expect from our superheroes. He is however a pompous phoney who only stays at work to keep his corporate sponsors happy. He is however not the star of this show. The film focuses on the ...  Read the complete review
