Napoleon Dynamite (DVD) ... Home Entertainment / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, Dubbed, PAL / Jared Hess makes an unforgettable directorial debut with NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, a hilarious, tender, and original portrait of a truly eccentric character. Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) is a high-school outcast in every sense of the word. More interested in playing tetherball by himself and drawing pictures of his favourite animal, the 'liger' (a combination of a lion and a tiger), Napoleon is ignored by everyone in his tiny hometown of Preston, Idaho. At home, things aren't much better. His uber-nerd older brother Kip (Aaron Ruell) and ultra-vain Uncle Rico (Jon Gries) are too busy with their own obsessions to give Napoleon the time of day. It isn't until a new student, Pedro (Efren Ramirez), arrives that Napoleon finds friendship and performs an act of brave defiance that makes him a true hero. Written by Hess and his wife Jerusha, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE brilliantly captures the awkwardness of high school without succumbing to condescension. Most of this can be attributed to Heder, who steps into Napoleon's moon boots with a jaw-dropping flawlessness. The rest of the cast is just as natural, underplaying their roles and letting the comedy unfold without forcing any of the jokes. Add a hilarious soundtrack of 1980s hits and you have an instant classic, a crowd-pleasing riot that has an undeniably universal appeal.

... awkward is played beautifully by John. Napoleon is wonderfully awkward throughout the film, though especially in his scenes with Deb. The teenage angst is there for all to see. Napoleon's friend Pedro's act (played by Efren Ramirez) shows the contrast between them, and although they are both idiotic, it frames Napoleon out as more of a loser. It is Napoleon's awkwardness and idiotic act that makes the film absolutely perfect. So apart from the amazingly fantastic act of the characters, what makes Napoleon Dynamite better...more

this film is INCREDIBLE!! its like marmite. you either absolutely love it. or you despise it. forunately, i love it. the film is based around a loser named napoleon and his really boring yet incredibly funny adnentures. this film is easily up there with anchorman and airplane in my oipinion and can make me laugh over and over again. the way in which there really isnt much to this film yet the way it can have me and my friends in stitches is sheer brilliance. the film generally has no plot, story line or simple basis and in almost all points is completely random. but this is what makes it what it is. its simplicity and light hearted nature makes it a charm to watch over ..  Read the complete review

This is the story of a teenager called Napoleon Dynamite. He's socially awkward and probably a bit autistic and to be honest that's the film more or less in a nutshell. The film takes place over a short period of Napoleon's life while at school where everybody is socially awkward. There are some shots of a Jock as he gurns away which makes him just as geeky as Napoleon. Even the beautiful girls in the school show moments of insecurity and clumsiness. It shows everyone to be human. The cast is made up of unknown actor although the lead actor John Heder has gone on to have a successful film career starring in films such as the awful Blades of Glory and ...  Read the complete review

Napoleon Dynamite (DVD): An experience that starts with a bang. (579 words)

So what type of movie is your cup of tea? A modern day comedy? A film about complete idiots? If so, then this movie is a fantastic choice for you! Napoleon Dynamite is a classic, halariously funny comedy, enjoyable for all the family. Napoleon is an idiotic loser who acts continuously ridiculous, creating more and more laughs, over and over again. The slapstick comedy just adds to the fun. The plot carries on with a flare. Napoleon's obvious awkwardness around certain girls, like Summer - a posh, stuck up, popular girl and Deb - a quieter, more understanding, unusual girl can make the audience feel emotion for Napoleon. Scripted and directed by Jared Hess, co-scripted by  Read the complete review

lovable film (289 words)

Rating:

This is such a lovable and heart warming film. Napoleon lives in a very small town somewhere im guessing in the South of the U.S.A. He lives at home with his Grandma and older brother. The two brothers are the biggest looking 'geeks' you could possibly imagine; tall, very skinny, huge glasses, shirts done up t the top and socks up to their knees! The Grandma has to go away to hospital and their deranged uncle comes to take care of them. he is a very odd man who is convinced that if it were back in the 80's and 'coach' had given him a chance, he would of been a world class player by now! Napoleon sees himself as a great artist and is ...  Read the complete review

Napoleon Dynamite (DVD): Marmite Gold - Vote for pedro why not? (190 words)

If you're looking for a film with a great storyline, punch lines for the whole family to understand with outrageous one liners, then look elsewhere. Napoleon dynamite is a film like no other, it's pure MARMITE. I love the film, it had me in absolute stitches with Pedro's hair, Mexican gangsters, 'your mom goes to college', the portrait, vote for Pedro (hell I even bought the t-shirt). It's comedy gold in my opinion but my other half, absolutely hates it! It's a great film to get out when your mates are over and you've had a couple of beers, some great franchise is also available on the internet such as an alarm clock which says random quotes, tacky indeed ...  Read the complete review
