Advantages: Quirky
Disadvantages: Quirky
What is this bizarre little film, you might think?.....Well, it's about a geek, and it's brilliantly geeky.....It champions being geeky, because all the other characters seem so dull and stupid in comparison....
The main 'geek' isn't especially geeky, in fact he just gets on with things in a clever kind of way. It's this conceit that elevates this film to cult status: who is the fool, the wise man or the man who can speak truth more openly?
I think the film might also be about autism, but it's in no way specific. Many of the characters are inflated and ridiculous.
It's brilliant because it's filmed in a very quirky style that is not like most other films. It is an everyday style, where very ordinary things - and also very stupid - are the characters do. And the humor inherent in this is what punctuates the film and makes it captivating. It's like slapstick, but in a surreal, ordinary way, not a deliberately cinematic way.
So see this film...it's funny and surreal....and very original. There are quite a few films that have begun to imitate it....
It also has a dynamite ending, which will have you open-mouthed.
Summary: Very enjoyable and sweet
