Introduction

Napoleon Dynamite is an American comedy and was originally released back in 2004. The film was a big success at the box office and with film critics considering its relatively small budget. Napoleon proved to be a bit of an anti hero character. The film can have a bit of a love/hate relationship with people. If you do get into it and understand it , it turns out to be quite an interesting and funny film to watch.

Plot

The film is the story of Napoleon Dynamite who is a lovable but unpopular high school kid who just wants to fit in. He lives with his grandma and his 32-year-old brother (who cruises chat rooms looking for love). Napoleon befriends the new kid in school, Pedro (Efren Ramirez), who has a cool bike, can talk to girls, and has an actual moustache. Pedro is though a bit of a misfit like Napoleon. Both also sometimes hang out with another outcast Deb . Pedro decides to run for class president and Napoleon aims to help him.

Opinion

This film is funny and is not the typical high school teenage comedy. Yes there are the different groups we find such as the jocks and the nerds and all the others but this is not the main focus of this movie. It is about Napoleon and his other outcast friends. There isn't any real direction or plot in the film but it is just about how a misfit (Napoleon) lives and how he refuses to fit into the norm and how he chooses to fit with others who are like him. The casting of the characters was great. They are all relative unknowns I guess but John Heder (Napoleon) and the other two misfits Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Tina Majorino (Deb) all do a great job.

The film is definitely not for everyone and you have to back off and understand the mood and general feel of the movie before you can really find the actions of the characters funny. Then you will be able to understand what it is all about. Overall I found it to be an enjoyable and funny watch although quite strange but I guess that was just part of what the movie was all about.

Summary: enjoyable and funny enough film
