Advantages: Soundtrack
Disadvantages: Storyline is weak
Set in a 1960's American University this comedy features the late great John Belushi.
It is based around the fraternity system with Belushi and his colleagues members of the worst male fraternity on the campus. Life for them is a series of booze fuelled parties and attempts to avoid being kicked out of the university by Dean Wermer.
The quality of the humour is pretty basic to say the least and the storyline is weak. It has the feel that it is actually a series of sketches thrown together into a loose story of sorts. There is a fair amount of slapstick humour with Belushi providing most of the more extreme antics.
It is not for the easily revolted nor is it for those that are offended by nudity as there are a few scenes showing topless women.
There are a few funny scenes that keep your interest as well as a great soundtrack including the excellent Shout during a toga party.
The two funniest scenes are when one of the new recruits to the fraternity wrestles with his conscience over a girl who has passed out on his bed and the finale when the fraternity members get their revenge on a rival fraternity and the Dean.
Worth watching for the laughs it provides and also because many of the later movies such as Porkies and American Pie follow a similar formula.
Summary: American comedy
