Advantages: Djimon Hounsou
Disadvantages: everything else
Like a few other people I know I was looking forward to Never Back Down. Being a keen fan of mixed martial arts and training in kick boxing I thought this movie would be straight up my street. How painfully, painfully wrong I was.
Sean Ferris plays a high school footballer, named Jake Tyler, with a little too much anger who keeps getting into fights, on and off the field . He is thrown off his team for a hugh brawl but doesnt care as he figures he's leaving school to go across the country soon anyway. The footage hits the internet and soon, once he moves states and starts a new school, he's a local celebrity attracting attention from girls, unpopular kids and the local hard man, rich kid and love rival Ryan McCarthy.
After being invited to McCarthys parents mansion for a party he is challenged to a impromptu fight, in which he lose's convincingly to McCarthy.
After spending a long portion of the film trying to win over McCarthy girlfriend, Baja, and learning mixed martial arts from the only xharacter worth noting in the film Jean Roqua (Djimon Hounsou).
The film bilds to a final tournment, the beat down. I wont tell you what happens but you can pretty much guess its that predictable.
Unless your a 13 year old girl wanting to watch young muscle bound men fighting each other in cheesly choreographed scenes stay away. The film is far far too long and is as entertaining as being punched in the face. The only difference is a punch is over in second while this drags on for nearly 2 agonising hours I'll never get back.
Summary: dont watch this its awful
