Disadvantages: Lack of Features

Hot on the heals of the 'Wedding Singer', Drew has done it again. Adept, and in high comedy form, Barrymore lends her quirky humour, making this a delightful film.

You may be thinking it's a girly film and it is, but with much much more. With an arm twisted behind back, the other half forcefully demanded my audience. And do you know what? I had to hold up both hands, as I truly enjoyed it.

The film's appeal is in the fact that you can really sympathise with Drew's character, as it smacks of realism, throughout the film. Set in a high school, the characters whom make up schooling life, are so accurate to real life. The unattainable girls mixed with the A grade lads, the bods and the all rounders, provides a realistic frame regarding the struggle for popularity. Bringing back for me, the fondest and cruellest of memories.

The plot centers around Drew's character, the hapless Josie Geller. She is a twenty - five year old geek, always the butt of the joke and has learned no back bone, since leaving the painful experiences of high school. Always picked on, Geller's failure in gaining any respect follows through to her current job.

Josie manages to get a rare chance to go back to school (an opportunity relished by most of us), on her first under-cover assignment as a reporter. Posing as a student, she seeks her story amongst the schooling life, that had once treated her so ill.

You'll laugh and if I dare to admit it, cry, as the film displays an aching for love, acceptance and the traumatic experience of hormonal adolescence.

THE DVD DISK

As for the DVD package, there could have been more. Yes, it's delivered in 5.1 and English for the hearing impaired, but the special features are lacking some of what would have made it a five star rating. Such as outtakes, a short making of, even cast biographies, but what it does offer are interactive menus, scene access and original thea
trical trailer.

All in all, a well balanced DVD, with much to offer to even the most emotionally hardened individuals. Fight the tears, grin with humour and enjoy the delights of a teenager's second chance.

NOTE

Hat's off to Drew, her production company have produced their first little gem.

Ditto Irenes comment. I hate this, much as I love Drew Barrymore.

Good op, although I think you should have written more about the film itself.
