Disadvantages: Fans of the original, serious Freddy need not apply
Another Freddy sequel and this time Krueger has met his match against the Dream Master(!)
You can tell I said that sarcastically but actually, surprisingly, this is an enjoyable sequel with a swift pace.
Freddy, again, is ressurrected by....erm....dog urine (humour is at a high here) and he gets revenge on the teenagers who killed him in the last one.
Alice is a nerd who is never looked at by the school boys and her kick-boxing brother is always there to protect her. She is like a slave at home to her domineering father but deep inside of her, the rage is piling up.
Eventually, she gains a special "dream power" that's been passed on by one of her friend's to fight Freddy who has been tormenting her and her other pals.
Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2) directed this film and I like his style! He's about all action and fast pace and this film has everything - inventive deaths (watch out for the cockroach kill), SFX, humour and some gore.
Robert Englund as Freddy is lapping it up here and looks to be enjoying himself.
It's a stark contrast to the original with how different the films became.
I guess that's what happens when a character becomes a cult phenomenon.
This film is a fun ride and much more enjoyable than the sequel that followed it.
At the end of the day, it's just another Nightmare sequel out to make money but this one has a lot of style, just like the third!
If you are a fan of the comedic Freddy and enjoyed the humorous third movie then you will love this one.
Recommended!
Summary: An surprisingly enjoyable sequel that has a lot of fun with itself
