I watched this movie for the first time at a point when I had started to doubt the quality of anime (which only means Manga to me). The amount of Japanese cartoons that were impressing me, in relation to the amount of features that were actually being released was dropping pretty quickly. Come to think of it, there were not that many to begin with, it was more the initial novelty factor that made me watch so many in the first place (The first being the gloriously bloody 'Fist of the North Star'). The only real reason for me watching this one was because a friend had just bought it, wanted to watch it straight after the purchase, and I was stuck with him for ... Read the complete review

Wow. This anime is the best of the sword fighting ninja variety. Stunning artwork, cool characters, great fight scenes and even a good storyline to wrap things up! The hero of the story is Jubei. He is like a mercenary ninja. Through both accident and cunning planning, he meets with an old man, who manages to get him teamed up with a young ninja girl. This ninja girl has literally got poison flowing through her veins!! Oh - and to add complications, the old man has poisoned Jubei - this is to make him work for him!! Anyway, Jubei is supposed to complete a secret mission and on doing so he counters a blind swordsman, a snake lady, an electrical weirdo and a ... Read the complete review

Ninja Scroll is a full length Anime / Manga or to use a more derogatory term Cartoon film. The story tells the tale of a lonely wandering ninja hero called Jubei who is tricked into helping a mysterious monk – Dakuan - who turns out to be a government spy trying to stop a plot to overthrow the government. It is set in Japan at a point in history which is unstated but could be anything from 1300 to 1700. During the tale he meets a female ninja – Kagero - who falls in love with him but and there is always a but isn’t there ! She is the poison taster for her warlord. As such, to kiss her is to die as one of their foes soon find out. ... Read the complete review

Glad to see that the other opinions posted here are in agreement with me ;) I've seen some crud manga in my time, so it was very refreshing to watch a quality story, well acted (!) that entertained me. I was given this on DVD and my instant reaction was, uh oh. Thankfully my fears were not realised as the film instantly engrossed me with the opening scene, throughout the excellent story, finally reaching it's great conclusion. Every emotion is in here, and I would highly recommend this film to any film lovers - whether you've enjoyed manga for years or have always hated it. Give it a go - you won't be sorry! ... Ninja Scrolls is not your average Manga film. Thankfully. It is easy to understand and even easier to enjoy. It is an excellent romp through 16 century china following a wandering Ninja called Jubei. He really does kick butt throughout the film. If you're looking for ultra gore violence, its here. If you're a sick perverted child and you want sex and nudity, firstly get a life and then look elsewhere. I'm not a die hard Manga film but Ninja Scrolls could just have changed my opinion. ...
