Disadvantages: Only 67 minutes!!

The DVD "Norah Jones - Live In New Orleans" features an intimate concert performance recorded in New Orleans in August 2002.

Who is She

Norah before she became famous was a member of a group called Laszlo. Later she joined a NYC groove band Wax Poetic. Then success knocked at her door as she is signing with Blue Note Records in 2001 and building a buzz around her young and the same time, mature voice.
In February 2002 Norah released her debut album 'Come Away With Me'.

"Come Away With Me" won eight Grammy at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden in New York City! Norah won five awards - Album of the Year, Record of the Year (for "Don't Know Why"), Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (for "Don't Know Why") and Best Pop Vocal Album. In addition, "Don't Know Why" won three awards for Song of the Year, Best Producer, non-classical and Best Engineered album, non-classical.

She did massive sales but what I really like about her is that she wasn?t influenced by the fame and lights of publicity. At an MTV interview she said: ?I know I'm lucky, but I think my career has been going too fast sometimes. I've definitely learned to say no to a lot of things, and it's been good for me. This year (2002) has been crazy, and I've learned that when I start to feel overwhelmed I definitely need to stand back and say, 'Wait, maybe this is kind of going too far.' "

In the ?LIVE in New Orleans? DVD you can see the truth of her words. Very simply dressed, anxious about her performance and when she starts playing and sing?simply amazing!

The date and the place of the concert

Saturday, 24th of August 2002 at The House of Blues in New Orleans. Not a big place. Very small I should say and very nicely filled. No standing people and really nice atmosphere. No many lights but not completely dark.

How it starts

The DVD starts with some scenes with the people who waiting for her concert outside the House of Blues, they say from how far they have come and how they love Norah Jones. (Only for a couple of minutes) and then goes to show some scenes from the preparation and the rehearsals of the concert.

The Songs

After taking her place behind the piano and say hello to the audience she makes the perfect start:
?Cold , Cold Heart.?
Really nice song and excellent first song for her concert as the audience warmed up really quickly. It created nice atmosphere. After, she introduced her Handsome Band to the audience (Adam Levy: guitar, backing vocals, Lee Alexander: bass, Andrew Borger: drums, Daru: backing vocals ?..and continued with the

?Nightingale?.
Isn?t that a fantastic song? With this song I understand better why many people say that Norah Jones has a smoky voice. Continues with
?One Flight Down?,
?Seven Years?,
?Feelin? The Same Way?
?Comes Love?

Between the songs talks with the audience, gives some background of the songs, makes mistakes and correcting them with laughs. The audience must felt really great being there that night. Then she continues with

?Something Is Calling You? and
?Come Away With Me?
Its not difficult to see that the audience is already away with her. The most fascinating thing though is that if you watching that DVD with no lights, just few candles, you can feel yourself going away as well? fantastic performance in that song. She continues with
?What Am I To You??
?Painter Song?
?Lonestar?
?I?ve Got to See You Again?
Her performance in this song is out of this world. You need to hear it. I can?t describe it? And she is closing the concert with
?Bessie Smith? and
?Don?t Know Why?
.By far one of the songs that you will never forget.

The whole concert last only 67 minutes. Not much, I will agree with you. But these are 67 minutes listening to very high quality music and songs by the divine voice of Norah Jones.

Special features

Nothing special really. Bonus Encore track ?Tennessee Waltz? and the music video of the Come Away With Me. Also Dolby digital 5.1 surround audio.

Price

I bought it for £10.99 from CD-Wow. It reached me in 5 days.
Also you can order it from www.norahjones.com for $15 which I think is cheaper!!

Overall opinion.

Norah Jones- LIVE in New Orleans is a DVD that you must have.
She is performing all her songs with feel, passion.

You even are able to notice her freckles and how humble and sweet is her appearance.
It?s great DVD for making atmosphere especially when is accompanied with candle lights and wine.
It?s perfect for background music .
It?s perfect company when you are alone in the house as its not only a cd. Whenever you turn your head towards TV or screen, she will be there singing.
Nice supplement when you have friends for dinner.
Perfect for those moments in life that you need to escape.

Thanks for reading...
