 ... Rhys Ifans. Ifans has never really blown me away with an acting performance - but here playing Cook he is a revelation. He has Cook's accent and mannerisms down to a tee. Even the performances as Wisty and 'Pete' are pitch perfect. However the one thing that lets film down for me was the performance given by Aidan McArdle as Dudley Moore. He plays Moore as a cartoon version of the 'club-footed Dagenham lad', his accent is poor and the whole performance shows up how bad an actor he is. It gets better the fur...more

Initially I was extremely dubious about this made for TV biography of one of the greatest ever British comedy partnerships. I was already quite familiar with the genius of Cook - having already seen quite a lot of, well, what was left of Not Only But Also as well as a myriad of live materials including the hugely controversial Derek and Clive tapes. The film is based on the biography of Peter Cook, which is excellent in its own right. However, condensing the book into a film must have been a huge task. What to leave out?
