This film, directed by Gary Sinise, who also stars in the film as George, who is clever and resourceful, with his friend and partner Lennie (John Malkovich) , a feeble minded and naive man who sadly has been since birth, with only George to keep him safe and happy. A brief outline of the story, based on the book by John Steinbeck. The year is 1930, America is gripped by the Depression. But in a time of poverty and despair, two men refused to give up hope. Lennie and George are a strange couple at first sight, being almost complete opposites. Nevertheless they gain strength from their friendship, as they travel from town to town. Hungry and broke they arrive at ... Read the complete review

Having read and loved the novel, I was apprehensive about the film version of 'Of Mice and Men'. The book, by John Steinbeck, brilliantly captures the futility of the American Dream, and looks at issues of loneliness and racism along the way. The story revolves around George and Lennie, in rural America. When we first meet them, they are on their way to a farm to take some manual labour work. We soon learnt that Lennie has learning difficulties, and George is the leader of the two. Lennie and George have a dream, an American dream, to save up their wages and buy their own farm, but Lennie keeps inadvertently causing trouble, and this becomes the focus of this very short ... Set during the Great Depression that resounded throughout 1930's America, this faithful depiction of John Steinbeck's classic novel is captivating to say the least. Gary Sinise both directs and portrays George Milton, a quick-thinking traveller working his way around ranches to earn enough money to buy a home. His companion is John Malkovich's Lennie Small, a well-built man with learning difficulties. George and Lennie share a dream of having a small-holding of their own, but Lennie's strength and naivety causes no end of problems, not least the various mice he takes as pets but inadvertently kills because he pets them too hard. The duo frequently talk through their ... Read the complete review

Taken from the fantastic book, about 2 men Lennie and George, who go to work on a ranch, this film is a 100% better than the original novel. It stars Gary Sinise (Mission To Mars, Snake Eyes) as George who has to take care of and look after Lennie (John Malkovich). Both turn in fantastic performances and the film portrays the true emotions which can clearly be seen and felt in the novel. This is a very good film, especially the last scene in which George must kill his friend. Both actors are exactly how I had imagined the characters and bring the parts to life in an interesting, exciting and very sad story. This film is definately worth watching, just for the ... I was made to read the book for school and I loved it so much I read it again and again so I was really looking forward to seeing the film and it didn't disappoint. Although you can never get the same experience of the charactersas they are in your head, the actors play the roles brilliantly and follow the book closely. John Malkovich is so involving as Lennie Small and draws you in to his character as the child like gentle giant who is unaware of his own strength. Lennie is accompanied on his journey by his best friend and companion George Milton played by Gary Sinise. The film starts where the 2 friends are running after a misunderstanding at ...
