One Fine Day (DVD) ... DVD released 04 February, 2002 at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment / Features of the DVD: PAL, Widescreen / This gentle comedy almost seems like something out of Hollywood's Golden Age, a movie that might have been made by a talented contract director, perhaps featuring Don Ameche and Claudette Colbert. But in fact One Fine Day stars George Clooney as an investigative columnist for a New York newspaper and Michelle Pfeiffer as an architect. Both single parents, the two meet and bicker and develop a relationship over the course of a day while their young children play together. Michael Hoffman (Restoration) directs with a good sense of what's funny about harried caretakers and kids who do whatever they want to do. The story stretches out of shape a bit when Clooney's character has to rally to prove some point of corruption at City Hall; nobody involved seems quite up to making that subplot believable, but all that really matters about this very nice movie is the winning love story. --Tom Keogh

... good acting, came across this and thought I'd give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. I thought this film was well put together, well acted and with a decent script. It's nothing special story wise (standard boy meets girl falls in love scenario) but it's very well written with some snappy lines and good comedy. And as well as the blossoming romance, the comedy is the thing that keeps this film watchable til the end. Watching the two characters come up against all sorts of silly situations with their kids and getting out...more

Premium Review One Fine Day (DVD): Good entertaining film that just falls a little flat on the ... (579 words)

Melanie Parker and Jack Taylor (Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney) are two single parents. Melanie is full time mother to her son and is a very career focused architect. Jack on the other hand is a bit of a hands off dad - he doesn't have his daughter every week and he is a pretty laid back kind of guy. He's a tabloid journalist so is used to charming people to get his way and as a result is pretty blasé about most things. When the two kids are late for their school trip and Melanie and Jack meet it's hate at first sight. But after emergencies at work they decide to join forces to look after the kids and start to see each other in a different light. The two ...  Read the complete review

One Fine Day is a romantic comedy released in 20th December 1996. It was a relative disappointment at the box office and mainly received negative reviews from the critics. The film is rated PG and runs for approximately 108 minutes. One Fine Day is directed by Michael Hoffman volume of work is very limited. His films include: Restoration, A Midsummer Night's Dream & The Emperor's Club. George Clooney was probably at the height of his 'sex symbol' image when this was released, I'm not really into older men but I do see the appeal with him! He's starred in films such as: Oceans 11, The Good German & Michael Clayton. Michelle ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review One Fine Day (DVD): Got Kids? Like Rom-Com? Then Watch (499 words)

Romantic comedies. We've all seen them. We know the formula. Take two people, stick them in an improbable situation that ordinarily would mean that they wouldn't make out together and then, if you want a bit of spice, add a couple of cute kids. For the box office the leads need to be attractive and there needs to be a happy ending. "One Fine Day" ticks all of these boxes but its redeeming feature is that, unlike most films of this genre, it's a fast-paced, snappy affair set over the period of just one day. Circumstances contrive to bring together divorcees Melanie Parker (Michelle Pfeiffer), an architect and Jack Taylor (George ...  Read the complete review

Having had a lovely relaxing day without husband or children around (much as I love them all!), I thought I would treat myself by putting my feet up and watching a nice romantic comedy on DVD. I've got a few on my 'to watch' pile but settled on One Fine Day starring two of my favourites - George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer. It was a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. The film was made quite a while ago in 1996 and is about two single parents whose lives cross one day. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Melanie Parker whose son Sammy goes to school with Maggie. Maggie's mum has just got married so she is having to spend the week with her dad Jack Taylor ...  Read the complete review
