Advantages: George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer are very good and believable

Disadvantages: One day is not enough to fall in love! Give it a week at least!

Melanie Parker and Jack Taylor (Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney) are two single parents. Melanie is full time mother to her son and is a very career focused architect. Jack on the other hand is a bit of a hands off dad - he doesn't have his daughter every week and he is a pretty laid back kind of guy. He's a tabloid journalist so is used to charming people to get his way and as a result is pretty blasé about most things. When the two kids are late for their school trip and Melanie and Jack meet it's hate at first sight. But after emergencies at work they decide to join forces to look after the kids and start to see each other in a different light.

The two leads are played by very capable actors. I am not a particular fan of either but happened to be looking for a half decent romantic comedy with some good acting, came across this and thought I'd give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. I thought this film was well put together, well acted and with a decent script. It's nothing special story wise (standard boy meets girl falls in love scenario) but it's very well written with some snappy lines and good comedy. And as well as the blossoming romance, the comedy is the thing that keeps this film watchable til the end. Watching the two characters come up against all sorts of silly situations with their kids and getting out of scrapes every two minutes. Silly and a bit unbelievable perhaps but still very entertaining.

The whole film is set over this one day that the two decide to team up to look after their children, so the film moves along at a good pace. The only problem with this is the complete turn around of how they feel about one another. In the morning they hated the sight of each other and each were everything the other despised in the opposite sex. But by the end of the night they are in each others arms. I can't make my mind up whether I would have preferred it to be set over a couple of days or not, to make the romance and change of heart more believable. The comedy element kind of makes up for that but I just feel that one day perhaps wasn't enough time in the film to get that romantic spark across to the audience. Perhaps if it was set over a week and the two had 'gotten it on' midway through only to fall out and get back together it would have been more believable.

George Clooney does exactly what he always does - delivers a good solid character that's believable and relatable in every day life and Michelle Pfeiffer doesn't do a half bad job either. The two characters are completely different and a good contrast to one another. Clooney also will appeal to the women out there (not to me but to many of my friends!) whilst Pfeiffer will push the buttons for the men. It's relatable too - so many single parents in their thirties are out there looking for romance but have such little time for it.

All in all apart from the 'falling in love in one day' scenario, I enjoyed this film. It's cute, it's funny, the leading actors are good and well balanced and it's entertaining. Worth a look.

Summary: Worth a watch, entertaining and acting is believable and funny too
