Created by David Renwick Starring Richard Wilson, Annette Crosbie, Dorren Mantle, Angus Deaton, Janine Duvitski and Owen Brenman. One foot in the grave began in 1990 and ran for 6 series, producing 35 episodes, (with 7 Christmas specials and a comic relief episode). The show mainly revolved around O.A.P. Victor Meldrew, (played superbly by Richard Wilson) and his views through life. The series starts with Victor being replaced at work by a machine thus forcing early retirement for him. We then follow the exploits of the forever complaining Victor, with his continuous run of bad luck and misunderstandings. The viewer will no doubt ... Read the complete review

Mrs D has bet me that I can't write about One Foot In The Grave without using as the title grumpy old Victor Meldrew's immortal and over used catchphrase, or employ it within the first paragraph. Well, I'm going to win that bet, and I intend to go through this whole opinion without once writing "I don't believe it" ... oh, s***!! Foiled again. Well, there's no possible way that you can get through an entire review on this immensely popular BBC 1 situation comedy written by David Renwick without somewhere including the said phrase. It's as much a part of life in Britain in the Nineties as the Premier League, only less ... Read the complete review

~ ~ So the old moaner incarnate, Victor Meldrew, has finally bit the dust, and gone off to harangue St. Peter for eternity. This series, along with the likes of “Fawlty Towers”, “Dad’s Army”, and “Only Fools and Horses” is fated to enter the annals of great British comedy. ~ ~ Victor Meldrew, played to perfection by actor Richard Wilson, was so successful a character because he was so identifiable to so many people. Let’s face it, we all know a “Victor” in our day to day lives, whether it be at home, in the workplace or where ever. And yet, beneath his gruff and unpleasant exterior there was a ... The genius of the writer and the wonderful pairing of Richard Wilson and Annette Crosbie as Victor and Margaret make One Foot in the Grave one of the classic comedies of all time. In each episode there are several sub-plots alongside the main one, which makes for extremely entertaining viewing. The supporting characters are very funny too, in particular Mrs Warboys and Patrick and Pippa next door. I understand there is to be a final series where Victor dies; it will be sad but it's probably best to finish while at its peak. ... Read the complete review

It's a toss-up whether my husband is turning into Homer Simpson or Victor Meldrew... I thought it was only this family that, almost on a daily basis, had horrible things happen to them but One foot int he grave has made me realise there are others out there. I think Victor is just wonderful. He really is a kind man, in his heart, his face just doesn't show it. There have been some classic episodes which have had me rolling with laughter. Even now, when I watch the repeats on UK Gold, I still find myself sniggering at lines I have heard over and over. The only problem with the programme is it allows my husband to cultivate his ...
