Only fools and horses began its life in 1981, penned by John Sullivan, who also wrote Citizen Smith. The first series of Only Fools and Horses is a cracking addition to anybody's collection, there are numerous reasons why the earlier seasons are far better than the older ones, least not because Leonard Pierce as grandad is much more flexible than his onscreen brother Uncle Albert. Grandad is a "soppy old git" but at the same time wily and quite similar to Del Boy, his voice is legendary and the character is not limited to saying "During the war" like Buster Merryfield's.
