Advantages: Very funny and great story
Disadvantages: No background laughter
Only Fools and Horse - To Hull and Back is yet another classic feature length episode featuring the trials and tribulations of Del and Rodney Trotter. This particular episode sees the brothers, along with Uncle Albert embark on a trip to Holland, or more specifically Amsterdam, to do a spot of diamond smuggling for Boycie. The do all of this of course from, you've guessed it, Hull.
Uncle Albert really comes to the fore in this episode as it is the first time the gang get to try out the old naval soldiers true capabilities at sea and, as you might have guessed, he is not quite the skilled 'skipper' he made himself out to be. There is nothing quite like watching the Trotters get lost in the north sea to add a bit of humour to your day.
Being lost at sea actually brings out the resourceful side in Del Boy as he suddenly decides he can speak Dutch. His classic shout at the locals in the Amsterdam canal section of "Ajax?" is just so funny. Ajax being the local football team in Amsterdam.
What ensues in Amsterdam is really tense and at the same time typically funny with Del never really knowing when is not appropriate to try and speak his own brand of French. A comical chase through Amsterdam and a hurried trip home and back in Peckham they are. But will it all have been for nothing?
As usual in the UK classic sitcom, the acting and comic timing is just perfect and the action gets you really hooked and you really start to care about what happens to them.
One thing I do find quite strange is that on the DVD version there is no canned laughter in the background. Now I know this is not really important, but it just seems odd that at the really funny bits there is a deathly silence. Pretty much all Only Fools episodes have canned laughter.
There are quite a few episodes better than this, but there are 2 or 2 moments that really live in the memory and for that reason I rate this very highly.
Summary: One or two standout moments make this worth a purchase
