'It's not just a movie, it's a state of mind' Orange County, is the story of a Shaun Brumder, a boy on the verge of going to college. He has set his sights on Stanford University, where the man who inspired his interest in creative writing teaches. He is bright, talented and just knows he will get in. Unfortunately due to his guidance counsellor messing up the transcripts and sending someone else's test scores under his name, he is turned down. Shaun knows that he needs to get away from Orange County and it's surfer lifestyle to be able to fulfil his ambitions and sets about finding a way to get into Stanford. All he has for help though is his alcoholic ... Read the complete review

note: also appears in part on Flixter and The Student Room Orange County had a very, very small theatrical release, despite starring Jack Black and having a soundtrack with an original song by the Foo Fighters (The One). However, it is actually a pretty fun outing if you relax your brain and just want something light and fluffy. The film revolves around Shaun Brumder (Colin Hanks), a surfer who becomes fed up with his life after his best friend, also a surfer, Lonny (Brett Harrison) dies, and decides to take a different path. He decides that he wants to write, but after his counselor (Lily Tomlin) messes up the forms and sends another one by ... Read the complete review

There seems to be a big trend of writers and directors going to Studio's with very mediocre teen flicks and being signed up and allowed to make them. This is one such film. Now when it was first released I?d seen it advertised and of course in the video for the Foo Fighters ?the One? but never actually seen it showing at any of the local cinema?s. The other plus that really drew me to the film was Jack Black, in almost everything I?ve seen him in he has played a big part in my enjoyment of the film. Unfortunately even he cant save Orange County. The plot, if you can call it a plot, revolves around Shaun Brumder (Colin Hanks) a surfer from Orange County, ... Read the complete review

ORANGE COUNTY - and no, it's not a Western! Well, that's what I thought when someone suggested watching 'Orange County' the other evening. I had a pre-conceived notion that this movie was set in the deserted, dusty Wild West, with saloon doors 'a-swinging' and whiskey glasses 'a-sliding' down long bar tables as they are greeted into the hands of mean, moody cowboys... But, no, wrong again, (thankfully!), as this 'surely be no western movie'. In fact, I wouldn't really say that it's a typical comedy, it's offers more of an 'acquired' humour content, and if you happen to have acquired it, then ... Read the complete review

Jack Black stars in this rather low key comedy that is well worth hunting out as it is a rather funny film and while the comedy is not exactly cerebral in nature it will have you laughing and is a film you do not have to think very hard about. The main character is played by Colin Hanks, his character is a surfer dude called Shaun Brumder who becomes disenchanted with his life style after his best friend dies. Jack Black plays his stoner older brother Lance and Shaun decides that his future lies in being a writer and so he applies to university however a mix up sees him getting rejected however he decides to go anyway and then the farce begins. Lilly Tomlin ... Read the complete review
