Origin is set in a futuristic world where mans impact on the environmeant has the earth a desolate wasteland in parts and a viscious forestland elsewhere. Agito, the hero, lives in a ruined city on the borders between the damning wasteland and the encrouching forest. Earth lies in tatters and the survivors are under the rule of the trees. The trees have control of all water supplies and decide if, when and how much they give to the humans that survived Earth's desolation. Agito, a young boy from the town built in the ruins goes on a quest to steal water, but when he goes on the run from the tree druids, who catch him and his friend in the act, he comes across a girl, Toola, who has been awakened from a stasis pod. On the Moon, an experiment is undertaken to genetically modify trees and plants so they can survive in the harshest of environments, but the enhancements are too great and the lab is overrun.
