I found the movie Outbreak pretty enthralling and entertaining but at the same time raised concerns and questions for me. While watching this movie I wondered whether something like this happen in real life. Could someone just carry a deadly virus into a city in some terrorism act and wipe out half of North America gradually city by city. At the time of this film's release back in 1995 I thought and wondered this and although unlikely was still possible. Now I've watched it again recently it begins to feel more plausible as we know the world has changed over the last ten years in regards to terrorism or other horrors like that. Outbreak was screened on TV last night & even though this is the fourth time I have seen it, I would watch it again. The plot consists of a deadly virus that threatens to sweep the world & one determined Army doctor who plans to save the world inspite of the General trying to stop him as the virus represents the perfect biological weapon. The cast is headed by Dustin Hoffman & Renne Russo, the action is set mainly in America but there are scenes from Ziare where the virus originated from. It’s hardly an original plot and there has been many other similar films before and after, such as Carriers. But, in my opinion, Outbreak is one of the best, if not the best of its type. The basic plot is about a virus which had originated in Africa, the army had thought they had destroyed it with a nuclear device but a monkey brings it into the US, causing an outbreak of a virus which can kill quickly with 36 hours. The whole film revolves around Dustin Hoffman finding a cure for it by locating the carrier monkey before the military nukes the town where outbreak has occurred. There is something inside me that forces me to watch "Outbreak" every time its on satellite. I don't quite know what it is, but I find this movie incredibly enjoyable. The plot focuses around a mysterious virus that was born inside of a monkey that slowly spreads throughout the world, speedily killing everybody who gets it. The threat of a virus that has mutated to a much more deadly state than previously thought is the basis of this movie. And when that virus can kill within hours, and seems to spread like wildfire, it may be the most dangerous threat the world has know. Outbreak is not a ground breaking story, it is however frighteningly accurate. The disease may be fictional, but it has cousins like Ebola that are close enough to scare the pants off you. It starts with the outbreak of a deadly virus in africa, covered up by the military by destroying the village and villagers. Present day sees the return of the virus, in a new strain that the governments secret antidote is powerless to stop. Add to this the fact that no-one believes the man who says its happening and we have a very tense story indeed.
