Advantages: Good action and creature
Disadvantages: bad character development
Outlander is a film by producer Howard McCain. Starring jim Caviezel and Sophia Myles.
Jim caviezel stars as the otherworldly outlander who crashlands his space ship on earth in the days of the vikings. Upon crashing a moster who stowed away on his ship wreaks havok and he must team up with the vikings to batle the creature.
The film is a great bit of entertainment. it will win ni awards but provides solid action throughout the film. Caviezel is a good solid lead and shows he can do action films as well as Drama. The film isnt without its flaws, the dialouge is bad with some corny one lines poorly used.
John Hurt and Ron provide support but with underdeveloped characters have little to draw on fleshing out there characters.
The CGI i nt he film is great and the monster is a mish mash of Predetor and Alien. The Monster is a great creation and although presented as the bad element in the movie you almost want it to survive after learning what happens to the rac e leaving little sympathy for the outlander.
The costumes are very realistic and convinces in its setting but the score and some out of place scenes make it hard to get invested.
There are however some well staged action scenes that leave you on edge and suprised in the results leaving you unsure just who will survive.
The plot is great but could of been a bit better with more character development for the supporting characters. The idea of a moster in the age of the vikings is an instant draw just to see how its executed on screen.
Worth having on dvd for a bit of sci fi entertainment.
Summary: A good mish mash of horror and sci fi
