One of my all time favourite musicals, this is long, almost epic, but flies by so quickly that as soon as it finishes, you’ll want to watch it again – and again – and again. Set in California during the Gold Rush, it’s a story of the birth of a town – No Name City – and the lives of the people in it, particularly Ben Rumson, the grizzled veteran miner, Pardner – his partner, unsurprisingly – and Elizabeth, the wife who Ben buys, but who falls in love with both Ben and Pardner.
