... what's going on in the confusion of darkness and solitude. OK, the film starts well, and there's a lot of tension and suspense in the first forty minutes or so. The actors, particularly Quaid, do a good job of portraying the confusion they feel. The clues slowly get laid out before us and we seem to be in with a chance of a decent addition to an already overcrowded genre. Then it happens: two things in fact! First off, a weird martial arts expert woman who runs around beating the crap out of people, and secondly Cung Le ...more

Crowned Review Pandorum (DVD): Pandorum's box isn't worth opening (589 words)
by - written on 15/10/09 (Very useful, 51 readings)
Rating:

Corporal Bower and Lieutenant Payton are woken up dazed and confused from suspended animation. On a ship seemingly floating through space, they set about recovering the gaps in their memory and restoring power to the ship's system. However, as Payton directs Bower through the bowels of the ship towards the ship's core it would appear something else inhabits the ship, something deadly. "Pandorum" is an incredibly contrived space horror. Borrowing heavily from pretty much every sci-fi thriller you can think of, most notably "Alien" and "Event Horizon", this is a bog standard turn off the lights affair that offers nothing new. ...  Read the complete review

When it comes to choosing films between me and my boyfriend we come up with some interesting choices. I pick films that have actors in from films I like, and well he will pick films that he likes - majority of the time that means we see some random films. This one however, is incredibly random but it is a film that will become like marmite. You either love it or hate it! Despite how confusing and a little bit odd this film was we decided to see it anyway, even though from checking online it had tanked at the box office in the USA. Well it was worth a watch anyway! ~*~ Quick Stats ~*~ Directed by Christian Alvart... Produced by Paul Anderson, Jeremy ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Pandorum (DVD): Promising start, but ends up a box of rubbish (330 words)
by - written on 29/11/09 (Very useful, 23 readings)
Rating:

Pandorum is a film that showed some promise; decent enough actors (notably Dennis Quiad but also that guy from Six Feet Under); the plot looked alright too - set in an unknown future, a couple of guys onboard a space-ship come out of stasis to find their ship ruined and a mystery unraveling before them that includes aliens - so far so good. The truth is that I've seen a million films like this, set in the dark confines of mysterious space-ship corridors, leaving the audience to work out what's going on in the confusion of darkness and solitude. OK, the film starts well, and there's a lot of tension and suspense in the first forty minutes or so. The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not the worst film ever. (587 words)

From www.nefariousfilms.co.uk What do you get if you mix a boring hung over Sunday afternoon trip to the cinema with generous helpings of Alien, Sunshine, The Descent and Event Horizon? Pandorum, possibly the most unoriginal sci-fi film ever. If you've seen director Christian Alvart's previous film the barefaced blatant Seven rip off Antibodies this won't be much of a surprise. By the time you realise you've been mugged off by the trailer you won't care. Pandorum rattles along so fast you'll be enjoying yourself whilst subconsciously your brain notes every massive gap in plot logic for later discussion in the pub. What little plot there is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Pandorum (DVD): Fear what happens next... (722 words)

Film only review. Despite having seen a not-very-appealing trailer for the film Pandorum, and reading some poor reviews in the press, I was still keen to see it. Pandorum is set in the future, when the Earth is over-populated and suffering from water shortages etc. Lt Payton played by Dennis Quaid, and Corporal Bower played by Ben Foster, awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a huge spacecraft. Neither can remember anything, why they are there, what their mission was, or how long they have been in hyper-sleep. They are in total darkness, and the only sound is a low rumble from deep in the spacecraft. The doors won't open and ...  Read the complete review
